No DVR after moving settings to Win 8.1 PC

Post by thedoomster » Mon Feb 10, 2020 12:07 pm

Since I leave my Windows 8.1 WMC machine on all the time, I decided to move the DVR to that machine. I disabled the DVR settings on my Win 10 machine and enabled it on the Win 8.1 machine - the default location. When my.hdhomerun.com didn't pick up the DVR on either machine, I restarted both and still no joy. How do I fix this?

Also, to move my (few) recordings from the Win 10 machine to the Win 8.1 machine, is it just a matter of copying the Folders inside the C:\Users\Public\Recorded TV\HDHomeRun directory?

Update the Win8.1 PC to the latest beta software version and check to see if the DVR is then available. https://info.hdhomerun.com/info/downloads#beta_software

Yes, you just need to move the folders over to the Win8.1 PC.

Ok, but if it also updates the HDHR firmware to beta and it introduces other issues, there's no going back, right? Since the DVR isn't really essential to me right now (I have a Prime and a cable DVR), should I just wait for the next production release?

I personally would never wait for a production release as every time I have had firmware issues it has been with non-betas... including one that was released just a few days after a perfectly working beta. Peoples issues with beta firmware generally would have had the same issue if they updated to the release as usually the issue is noticed because of the reboot of the device.

The only new issue we're tracking on the firmware side is with the ISDB-T (Brazil) model. If you don't want to update, then uninstall and reinstall the current release version.

Thanks Jason, that fixed it. As a side note, I resurrected an old Galaxy Tab Pro tablet running Android 5.1.1 to test with and after updating the app to the latest, the Live TV doesn't work (blank screen) with Early Access On and plays only non-DRM channels with it Off, but only after I did a Force Stop on the app after trying a DRM channel. Probably not a concern since it's such an old version of Android...
