File size for 4K broadcast of Super Bowl LIV?

Post by grumpygramp » Sun Feb 02, 2020 2:04 am

How many GB per hour is a 4K TV show on Verizon FIOS; channel 1498?

I'm wondering how much space I'll need for the 4K broadcast of the Superbowl?

I'd estimate it around twice of your HD recordings today based on the fact that it typically airs with a bitrate of 30mbps or so in the past. With it being just a fake 4k upscaled from 2k video, the bitrate could be even lower

Yep not true 4K ... just taking advantage of the 4K hype.... 1080P up-scaled which is already done by most 4K TV.s.

But it should also support HDR which the 2k broadcast does not have.

I flipped back and forth between the HD channel and the "4k" channel and did not notice much of a difference.

You will need to play it on devices and TVs that support HLG HDR to see any difference. For me, I use Win10 PC play to a Samsung 4K TV. All I can say is colors are quite different.
