eveng download failed log file but no video

Post by hrocks50 » Sun Jan 12, 2020 4:28 pm

I've been working on this literally hours since yesterday. Scouring forum, google searches, etc. I reboot my HD homerun tuner, reboot my Win 10 laptop, put in some string in power shell for Win 10. Everything appears to work except the video storage on my laptop SSD. This is my log file, which is constantly being updated:

20200112-23:26:47 Recording: sending discover using local ip 192.168.0.177
20200112-23:26:47 Recording: discover response from BF35805E-42CC-4D4E-93D4-99AB00DEE26F http://192.168.0.177:49671
20200112-23:26:47 Recording: event download failed
20200112-23:26:47 Recording: disk space available = 456GB
20200112-23:26:47 Recording: current time = Sun Jan 12 23:26:47 2020 (correction of 0s)
20200112-23:26:47 Recording: no timer events planned

What is needed to get recording to happen?

What HDHomeRun Device?
How is it connected to the network?
Does the device have internet access?
Any 3rd party security software (anti-malware, firewall, ...)
Have you set any recording rules yet?
Have you recorded anything yet?
Any VPN or Proxy enabled?
Are you subscribed to the DVR?

The part of the log you posted basically says it discovered itself as a recording engine and did not discover any tuners. The DVR engine won't work with legacy tuners, it discovers the tuners the same way the app does in that it sends out a request to the broadcast address of the network interfaces (and can be confused if there is an overlap - i.e. wifi and ethernet both on same subnet). Typically the broadcast address for the ip you gave would be 192.168.0.255 but that depends on the subnet mask... the tuner would also have to be in that address range and have the same broadcast address... I have seen some firewall configurations that don't open up for the response from the device as it doesn't treat such response as established, in some cases this is also controlled by what software/app requested such. For the DVR to retrieve its list of rules it uses the DeviceAuth of the tuner and the tuner needs to contact SD periodically to maintain that auth.

I am at work now, so I can get more detailed information when I return home.
The dual-tuner OTA HDhomerun unit is connected to one of the RJ45 ports on my ISP's modem/wifi box.
I can log onto my modem/wifi box at 192.168.0.1 and find out what i.p. the HD homerun tuner box is assigned.
Any 3rd party security software (anti-malware, firewall, ...) This is a good question. And the one I know least about.
I had McAfee on my Win 10 box but it has expired. Perhaps the problem lies here? If the HDhomerun tuner box
needs to directly talk to silicondust over the internet, perhaps my ISP has the default set on their box to not allow that?
Right now my Win 10 box is using Wifi. Perhaps their is a problem with it on Wifi and tuner on wired?
Who is posting logs on my Win 10 box? Is this from my hardware tuner, i.e., inside my own LAN, or is it something
on the internet from silicondust.com?
Recording rules are set. The path is set in the HDhomerun config app. (It's where the log files are put, which I do get.)
The time before scheduled and how long after scheduled end are set.
I have not been able to record any video at all. Yes, I am subscribed (paid my $35) to the DVR. I do get the 14-day listings.

Well I'll be. I looked at the model number of my dual HDhomerun tuner. It is HDHR3-US. According to the minimum hardware requirements this tuner is not supported for the DVR. Funny (not so much) that I was able to register this device when I ordered the $35/year programming guide. So, this question is solved, not the way I would have liked.
