OTA update is automatic. Check your Android version to see if it is now 9.0.

Then, you have other issues. I have zero problem with Android 8 ROM.

This thread is about Mi Box S and Android 9 problem. If you have original Mi Box (3) or still on Android 8, it does not apply.

This weekend I started using a temporary workaround. If you have a plex server, you can set the video to 480p (since all of the FIOS HD channels are 720p or 1080i). This forces the plex server to transcode and not direct play mpeg2. The quality is not great and the channel switches take longer, but its not pixelating and stuttering so its watchable (and it gets the wife off my butt). The only thing is that the plex guide stinks - sorry SD, love the hardware but you guys need to take a look at the live channels guide as well, but I guess thats the beauty of your approach.

Plex guide - they do their own guide data and it may not be as good as our guide data.

Are you seeing a problem with our guide data in our app?

Sorry, its not a guide problem. I find usability issues with the plex and hdhomerun guides. I find it much easier to use the live channels grid guide which is easily filtered by category and has a prominent list of "last" channels. Plex recently added a "last" feature which makes things easier if you know which channel you want to go to, but the grid guide updates slow, is not quickly filterable, and makes you not only select the item from the grid, but then click again to "ok" your previous selection. I find the hdhomerun guide is easier to use when there is a mouse/keyboard, but most of the time I only have an android TV type remote.

Thanks for the "Heads up" on this everyone. Luckily I didn't have enough storage space on my device to install the update. I was just about to remove Kodi to free up space to install the OTA. Glad I read this first.

It will probably take XiaoMi another couple months to publish some half-baked 'solutuon' that will break a few other things along the way.

Your best bet is to find a way to roll back.

I ended up moving a MiBox3 from another TV into the main area until they release a patch. I sure hope it doesn't take 2-3 months for a firmware update. -Joel

It's anyone's guess how long it will take, especially with Xiaomi being Chinese and activities in China being heavily disrupted by Coronavirus at the moment.
