DVR Recording Starts Late

Post by whw_HDHR » Thu Nov 07, 2019 1:42 pm

Hello All, new to the HDHomerun...

I have my setup complete and my DVR recording to a network share.
Unfortunately the DVR has continually started 5 mins later than what the guide shows as the program start time.
The padding on the event is set to 30 seconds either side of the recording.

I have also tried recording to the local PC the HDHR was setup on, made no difference.
I see no way to check the time of the tuner itself in the setup.

Any help would be appreciated... thanks,

Will

What's the device ID for your HDHomeRun?

Is every show starting late or just certain ones?

DeviceID: X001MPH3NP (from label on box)
Yes all recordings are starting late, the TV program starts on time.

The device ID would be found on the label on the bottom of the HDHomeRun.

What are you actually running the DVR software on? You really need to fix its clock. It seems to be off by somewhere between half a day and a full day and it's drifting wildly. The DVR keeps its own internal time to account for incorrectly set clocks, but if the device it's running on is so screwed up that it can't keep even vaguely consistent time, then even that won't work, and that seems to be what's happening for you.

OK will look into that, it was using my Windows 10 PC that has correct time, but that did not seem to help.
Will try again.... thanks

Did you shut down the DVR on whatever the other device is? If multiple DVRs are running, they will coordinate between each other and whichever one has the most space will do the recording.

Yes I am seeing that the DVR functions are still going to the NAS, what got installed on the NAS and where, I do not see anything that is obvious...?
The server the network share is on is an uRaid server.

I also notice an uninstall of the HDHR apps and a reinstall did not reset the DVR config to having no Tasks setup, it brought back what was there before.
So where is this configuration continuing to come from...?

tasks are stored in the cloud... the engine contacts SD based on your devices' DeviceAuth every hour or two and retrieves the rules for the next 4 hours (clients, just retrieve the list of rules (tasks) from SD)

What kind of NAS is the DVR currently installed on?

It is an UNRAID NAS, all I did was click the NAS Install button in the setup up app and off it went, I created the folder ahead of time and it found it on it's own.
Came back with OKs to all the checks and was done as far as I could tell.

So it's not actually recording to a network share, it's recording to a local folder that also happens to be shared? Recording to a share would imply that you have the DVR running on one device but the drive physically attached to something different.

You should be able to remove the DVR from it by deleting the hdhomerun_record file from the recording directory and rebooting it.

OK there is a network server and there were 3 HDHR clients; on the Windows 10 PC, nVidia Shield and a Amazon Fire TV box.
I have uninstalled all 3 client, removed the HDHomerun folder form the Windows 10 PC and from the server, both have been rebooted.
The HDHR is powered down and the Ethernet disconnected.
I have dealt with the time issue on the server, time in BIOS was incorrect so likely a bad button battery on the mainboard, but it is holding time for the moment.

Before I put anything back together can you please delete anything on your side that will get pushed back, media, etc.. I want nothing back I want this to be a scratch install when I start over.

Let me know when that is complete and we will try again.

Thanks...
