Black Screen on Android TV

At some point today, the app began opening to a black screen with no functionality on both Nvidia Shield w/ Pie and Xiaomi Mi Box S. Everything is working fine with Windows 10, and with Android phones. I've tried clearing app storage, reinstalling the app, and restarting everything.

After yesterdays fix, I was thinking things were getting back to normal. HDHomeRun was working earlier today on my Shield, but tonight, all I get is a blank screen. HDHomeRun appears to be fine on my iPhone and Win10 laptop. Since all I get is a blank screen, I can't do anything like look at settings. Anyone else having this problem?

It has mysteriously corrected itseft. I'll let you know if it mysteriously goes back to the dark side.

Unfortunately, that is not the case for me.

I open the HDHR app, and it immediately goes to a black screen. There is no evidence that the software tries to launch at all.

Whenever that happens to me, i clear cache and it launches.

I cleared the data and cache again this morning and its working now. The same steps did nothing last night.

I did not say to clear data... that can be disastrous to some with a shield if they use it as the DVR

I can attest. Clearing HDHR DATA on the Shield WILL delete all your recordings.

In addition to what has been said here on the forums, there have been a few e-mail support tickets complaining about a black screen and not being able to go past it. I haven't figured out a cause or pattern yet, and I don't believe any UI code has been remotely pushed out today (as far as I know, not 100% on that). I'll take it as a good sign that the problem is resolving itself, but at the same time I'd really like to figure out what's going on o.O

Were/are people getting totally black screens, or are were/are there any messages such as like "Failed to fetch" or "Failed to read"?

I've had the black screen trying to launch the HDHR. It seems to happen when I've read that there is a new UI version being pushed and I want to load it. I'll exit the app, force stop the app, clear the app cache, then when I try to re-start the app, I'll get the black screen. I can press the home button on my Shield's remote to get back to the home screen, after which I repeat the above process and the app will usually load normally again. Perhaps it's hanging up at the black screen while it's trying to download a new UI version and not being able to do so for some reason? I believe it would be helpful if the app printed on the screen whenever it IS downloading a new UI version and what that UI version number is.

I did unplug/plug the Prime device and then the Nvidia before it got better, but because of a considerable lag in time, I cannot say that was the cause.

Just launched the app on my Mibox S for the first time since last night. App loaded up and seems to be functioning as expected.

Ned - there was literally nothing but a black screen. No message of any kind. I let it sit that way, several times, for up to 5 minutes.

All seems to be working now.

I had this and posted about it but I only got the black screen if I started HDHR. However, I had to physically unplug the device twice to get it working again. Even uninstalling and reinstalling HDHR didn't work. I'm not sure if what I did fixed it or if it was just blind luck.
