Unable to play channel protocol error

Post by cole0237 » Mon Jun 24, 2019 3:02 pm

I was successfully watching through my Mac mini, but then it wouldn't work and I get a black screen in the app with "Unable to play channel protocol error". Any solutions to this? I have an HDSilcondust Connect. Thanks!

You have the DVR set to record to /Volumes/Samsung_T5/HDHomeRun/ and this path is not accessible to the DVR, either because the permissions are wrong or because it doesn't exist. Please check to make sure the path is correct and that the permissions on it are set to read+write for everyone, then restart the DVR.

Yes, I was trying to set up my Samsung_T5 as and external hd for the DVR recordings. This instructions as to how to do this are a little confusing. I thought I had followed them correctly, but do I need to have a folder on my external drive labeled HDHomeRun? Yes the drive is read+write for everyone.

Yes, the folder needs to exist, and the spelling of the path must exactly match, including any spaces, symbols, and so on. In other words, if it's actually a space between Samsung and T5, put a space, don't substitute an underscore.

Yeah, I did all of that and it still didn't work. I'm going to return my HDHomeRun Connect Duo and get HDHomeRun Servio and then skip all of this external drive nonsense. I'm not a computer programmer, but I have a feeling this a software problem that could be and should be streamlined by SilconDust.

You shouldn't be getting a protocol error even with the record path being wrong. Protocol error normally indicates something is messing with communication such as security software.

I will set up a QA test with an incorrect record path tomorrow.
