Issues with Rel. 20190621 on my Samsung Note 8 phone

Post by leerandall » Fri Jun 21, 2019 5:14 pm

I honestly cannot say if they started with release 20190621, but after installing the release today is when I first noticed these issues on my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 phone (Android 9).

First, the HDHR app can't find any of my devices/DVR while connected to my wi-fi network. Here's the boot-up screen:

https://1drv.ms/u/s!AmC2D9qWVVZHhzolwiGwa0oitV-N

and the live TV screen:

https://1drv.ms/u/s!AmC2D9qWVVZHhzluUWVRa_vcRfXt

Now the second issue. The text scaling on the Live/Recorded/Discover/Tasks screen is too big:

https://1drv.ms/u/s!AmC2D9qWVVZHhzj0ZNUKdMf38ZYJ

My Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 tablet (Android 6.0.1) has none of these issues on the same wi-fi network. The HDHR app works just fine on the tablet.

Same on my Pixel 3. Ironically, the update note says fixed device discovery issue. But the fix itself is the one caused device discovery issue. I have another android tablet and not updated to the latest release, it works fine. It is a bad update.

Win10 app works fine

Both Samsung S8+ and S9 stuck on launch screen with discover failed here after update... As mentioned previously, W10 app works fine.

We have not been able to reproduce the problem here.

Quick test - can you please try entering the discover URL (as shown failed) in a browser on the android device - make sure it loads ok.

Fwiw I'm seeing similar behavior on mile pixel2xl

When I first launched with the beta UI enabled I got a black screen and no recodings visible. I then disabled the new UI and when I launch hdhomerun app it discovers both of my primes and DVR but they are labeled as unreachable and never gets past the discovery screen. Everything in my hdhomerun.com is showing up rather normal all on 0621.

Edit:
On the discover screen both primes and DVR have ip/discover.json failed

Installed the latest update on my Extend unit(20190621) and latest app on my PCs and Android devices. The Win10 app works fine, my Galaxy Tab S2 tablet appears to be working ok, but my Galaxy S8 phone also gets the ".../discover.json failed" , "...HDHomeRun Tuner (unreachable)" error. I uninstalled/reinstalled the app, but it doesn't help. my.hdhomerun.com on the S8 does pickup the Extend unit, showing the version and number of channels.

If I type the URL: http://xxx.xxx.x.xx:80/discover.json in the S8 browser(Samsung Internet is my S8 default browser), I get:

{"FriendlyName":"HDHomeRun EXTEND","ModelNumber":"HDTC-2US","FirmwareName":"hdhomeruntc_atsc","FirmwareVersion":"20190621","DeviceID":"1055E4C2","DeviceAuth":"2lQpclzi4Axcdh8S8XCeo4gI","BaseURL":"http://xxx.xxx.x.xx:80","LineupURL":"http://xxx.xxx.x.xx:80/lineup.json","TunerCount":2}

(The text appears to have a CR/LF after the "HDTC-" if that means anything ...it displays like that in my S8 whether portrait or landscape)

@Nick - Having exact same problems today on my Samsung Galaxy S8+, as others have posted on this topic. I'm stuck on the loading screen of the app, it reports an error discover.json failed to the IP associated with both my tuner and my DVR. It says it found 2 devices, but then DVR and tuner are "unreachable". I also have HdHomeRun app on both my Android TV (Nvida Shield) and my Windows 10 PC, and those are both working perfectly OK.

Note: My Galaxy S8 is on WiFi. I turned my Cell network off, just to make sure it only had one route to the devices. My Nivida Shield and Windows 10 PC are both on hard-wired ethernet. So I'd guess the problem is WiFi to the HomeRun devices. I could do further testing, but I think that's your job ... enough people have reported the exact same problem.

Update, per @nick's request. Yes, I can hit the myhdhomerun.com site from my mobile phone just fine, and can browse through the various menus and log. I also just updated my firmware to the lastest. Win 10 PC and Nvidia still work great, same errors on my Galaxy phone.

Hi - I also hit the discovery URL from the Chrome browser on my Galaxy device. Got the following response:

{"FriendlyName":"HDHomeRun PRIME","ModelNumber":"HDHR3-CC","FirmwareName":"hdhomerun3_cablecard","FirmwareVersion":"20190621","DeviceID":"13111848","DeviceAuth":"i4Xh87Z3TSf0dZ3o3+ZV+oOV","BaseURL":"http://192.168.1.68:80","LineupURL":"http://192.168.1.68:80/lineup.json","TunerCount":3,"ConditionalAccess":1,"TuningResolver":1}

Pasting exactly as returned, including the cr/lf characters after HDHR3-

I have got no problems on my older tablets and Android TV devices. It is just my new Pixel 3 that has the issue. The discover.json returns exactly the same on my tablet and the phone. And yet, only the app on the phone complains about the json failure. It is definitely related to the latest update because minute before I updated the app, it worked fine on my phone.

We are testing on a Pixel 3 here without issue.

What exact android version is it running?

It's on latest June 5 security patch. Android Pie. Just uninstall and re-install the app. Now I can only install June 5 release of the app which works fine now (but probably with broken 4k support). Not able to re-download June 21 release again.

While on the topic of my Pixel 3, I found there is no way to ever quit the HDHR app at all using the soft back button on Pixel 3. I have to use home button to back to home screen and close the app using the Google launcher's built-in capability.

Update: this is weird. When I re-install the HDHR app, it was Jun 5 version. Now a few minutes later, checked Play store again, I got the Jun 21 update. And sure enough, the Jun 21 update broke the app again. Why doesn't it install the Jun 21 release when I install the HDHR app in the first place?

BTW, play store reported that I'm the beta tester for HDHR app. Not sure if that make any difference.
