DVR dies - djp952

Post by djp952 » Tue May 14, 2019 7:21 pm

Hi guys, I wanted to throw my hat in the ring on the DVR engine dying on me. It appears to have given up sometime after midnight last night. My DeviceIDs are in my profile if it helps, and I have the logs dating back to May 11th.

I didn't notice right away since the software I use has a fallback mechanism to hit the tuners directly, I found out when looking for a recording, there was none. Checked my.hdhomerun.com and there was no DVR on the main site or in the JSON discovery data. Discovering the device via broadcast instead of JSON made it accessible to play back existing recordings, but we missed a few recordings from this evening since it stopped doing it's thing. I don't see any recent sync requests in the log, nor attempts to get the channel lineups from the tuners.

Restarting the NAS resolved the problem, I assume just restarting the RECORD engine would have done the same.

Device: Western Digital EX4100
DVR Version: 20190417

Let me know what I can do to help with any diagnosis, my logs are your logs if you want them.

20190512-14:01:35 Recorded: recorded sync to record-api.hdhomerun.com
20190512-14:01:35 Recording: event download from record-api.hdhomerun.com

It tried to sync to the server, but didn't complete. There's some sort of bug somewhere in the DVR where something gets stuck and it just stops trying when that happens. The DVR is still running and available to serve requests, but since it's not checking in it never gets new events to record. I've reported it to engineering previously and am waiting for it to get put on the schedule for someone to look at.

Thank you Jason, I appreciate the extremely quick response. I'll keep an eye on the DVR engine here and bounce it as necessary until the root cause has been found/fixed. I don't anticipate this being a frequent issue, for me this was the first and only concern with 20190417 to date.
