Remote Accessiblity

Post by pgator17 » Mon Apr 29, 2019 3:02 pm

Can the HD Homerun Extend or any other Hd Homerun product allow access outside the local home network? I am looking for a device that I can leave plugged in at my house which has a local tv antenna and I can get a app for my firestick at my cabin about a 2 hours away which I can not get locals with a antenna. I want to get the local area channels on my firestick at the cabin which I have decent internet at.

Any of the HDHomeRun devices with Plex would do that.

Personally, I recommend emby. I find it to be more stable than plex.

I have used Plex while away from home to access both live and recorded content generated by my HDHR Primes. Have never had an issue with stability. Use wifi whenever possible, since using your wireless network can eat up a lot of data in a hurry.

Hands down, Emby is the winner here. If your looking for a feature rich experience; such as on-screen grid display(top half video / bottom half grid) on Live TV or searching for a certain spot in a recorded show using thumbnail images. For me, Emby is the one to pick.

Both Plex or Emby will let you do that just fine. Choosing between them is a matter of preference and, for some almost a religious choice. :)
Both require the use of a "server" platform that you will need to have - i.e. PC, NAS or other like Shield TV at your home with the antenna that has the shows you want to watch remotely.

So you would use the HDHOMERUN hardware to watch and record the OTA content with either Emby or Plex.
