It recognizes it as a HDMI but the channels are in Folder format. No tv channel interface. Each channel is listed in folders. Firmware is up to date. Samsung tv model is un65nu7200

Not sure what you mean by hdmi as that is a type of display cable connection.

What you described is the tv's dlna interface connection with the tuner and is expected.

This was before my time (though I do recall hearing about it back when I was just a user), but there were at least two attempts to get something running directly on Samsung TVs, but both times Samsung either changed the API or otherwise pulled the plug on us. It's frustrating, because those TVs have the ability to show our full app interface, but the ball is in Samsung's court for that. They have to allow us on their platform for it to work.

For the foreseeable future, Samsung TVs will need a streaming box/stick/PC of some kind ( https://www.silicondust.com/live-tv/#devices ) hooked up to an HDMI input to use our full official app, and all of its features (guide data, live TV pause controls, DVR controls, discovery/search, etc).

That is exactly why I am confused to what you are trying to say. What you are mentioning you are seeing is the expected built in dlna software access of the samsung (as a source, not hdmi)... where hdmi would be connection to a pc, xbox one, android box, etc. (an external device hooked to the tv through an hdmi cable)

Only samsung series e tv's might currently have access to an app (non drm, for most even that now fails) Samsung did not allow that app on subsequent series. The K series for a few months could have used the RUI but Samsung pulled such access then SD pulled such support from their tuners as there was no longer any way to support such as there was no available hardware to support it.

Ancient news... not only did Samsung drop such support with a "forced" firmware update (to non-directv devices as this was an RVU feature that "requires" an RVU device while SD's was more of a cvp-2/vidipath way), SD also dropped such feature from the firmware about 18-20 months ago as there were no devices that supported such to test with. So even if Samsung added such support back, you would have to be on ancient firmware to support it.

Since the gui is gone, does anyone know how to save specific channels in the favorites folder of the Samsung TV? That would at least help organize what I watch. Thanks.

The favorites folder is what the device presents as favorites... click the star on the device's lineup page (filled in, its a favorite, click again to disable channel completely, then again to unmark it as a favorite).
