Not seeing today's Release 20190417 in Windows Store

Post by leerandall » Wed Apr 17, 2019 3:44 pm

I've been checking Win10 Windows Store for today's release since it was announced in the change log earlier this afternoon, but it hasn't showed up yet. Yet I've seen others' posting that they already installed it.

And why do you expect it there? The software release was the software package (i.e. setup) not app as well as release firmware (rather than beta)

Basically this "fixes" 2 issues since the beta with regards to installing. First is NAS install actually works as it only installs release versions. And if someone wanted to update firmware they can do so much easier from the device.

You get those direct from SD.

From the changelog (windows)
Windows:
HDHomeRun Config GUI: Add support for HDHomeRun SERVIO products (future product).
Latest HDHomeRun RECORD service for Windows – see RECORD below.
Update firmware to 20190417.

I guess I'm confused then. How else would the RECORD service for Windows get updated for non-beta releases such as this one? And there is no firmware update showing on my.hdhomerun.com for my tuners, which are both still running firmware version 20180817.

The Record Service does not come from the windows app store which only has the windows app ("view"). It comes from the full Software Package which includes setup, config, config_gui, and the windows record service... when doing a NAS install, the installer looks for the latest release version of the linux record engine then installs that on the nas, unfortunately with the latest beta, those wanting to do a nas install had to resort to a manual install as the windows nas installer installed the older version. With this update to release, the windows nas installer will install the most recent version to a NAS since it is no longer a beta.

As for the firmware, it usually takes a day or so for the tuners themselves to detect newer firmware (in some cases one needs to reboot the tuner to pull it in faster as it takes 8 hours between attempts). Currently it isn't showing newer than the beta released a few days ago but for the device to see a beta, it has to be on beta firmware. If you were to download the software package and run setup, it would update to latest.

There's the source of my confusion. I thought the Windows Store app also installed the RECORD engine for Windows 10, similar to the way the Android TV/Google Play Store HDHR app installs the RECORD engine on my Shield.

I'll wait a couple days and check my tuners again for an update. Thanks.

Windows Store apps aren't able to install background services like the DVR, so the Windows version of the DVR has to remain a separate non-Store download.
