Multiple drives to feed DVR

Post by KingLear » Tue Mar 26, 2019 7:07 pm

Does the DVR only support a single drive/path for recording and storing content? My main drive is beginning to get full and I would like to move already recorded shows to other drives. In other words to extend the search path. If not I'd love to see this being added as an enhancement in the future. Thanks

Thank you! I forgot to mention that I am using NAS drives. Modifying the RecordPath should do the trick.

Is it possible to do add a second drive location when running the DVR app on a WD MyCloud? For example, can you attach an additional USB drive to MyCloud and use that as a secondary location?

yes but note the secondary locations are storage locations... you will have to move the content there as it will write to the first location. How to do such was already mentioned as one modifies the RecordPath in the hdhomerun.conf file to point to that other location (I think on single bay myclouds it is mounted in /shares/drivename, you may need to look at what that usb drive is "shared" as)

On my single-bay My Cloud the USB drives get mounted in /var/media/ and are linked to /shares from there. I'm not sure if that makes any difference to the RecordPath line in hdhomerun.conf or not.

The "Easystore" share below is a USB drive attached to my single-bay 2TB My Cloud.

Code: Select all

WDMyCloud:/shares# ls -la
total 64
drwxrwxr-x 11 root share 4096 May 29 09:39 .

Where do I find the hdhomerun.conf file and how do I edit it?

Typically it is in the "share" but it depends on how you installed it.

Found it. It was hiding in plain site in the same directory that the HDHomerun is recording into. I modified the config file to add an attached USB drive and moved some of the files off the main WD My Cloud drive to free up disk space. Seems to work as expected. Thanks for the help.
