New issues with HDHomeRun app 20190123a on Nvidia Shield TV

Postby levinp » Fri Jan 25, 2019 7:02 am

Version 20190123a of HDHomeRun app fixed the stuttering problems on my Nvidia Shield TV. However, it created new issues that I have not experienced before. These issues are

1. Quite clicking noises every few seconds (almost like static)
2. Rapid switching between 5.1 surround sound and stereo as seen by my receiver (Jimmy Falon show last night)
3. Severe AV sync issues (Jimmy Falon show last night)

I saw all of these issues on channel 1011 (KARE 11 Minneapolis NBC affiliate) on Comcast. It is broadcast in MPEG2 1080i. I have not seen these issues on channels that are broadcast in 720P.

My equipment is HDHomeRun Prime (sorry I don't have a device ID handy right now), Nvidia Shield TV (Shield experience 7.2.2) connected to Vizio P65-E1 TV via Onkyo TX-NR575 receiver. Nvidia Shield TV is set to 4K resolution and 59.94Hz refresh rate.

I'm also seeing new problems with the 20190123a verson of HDHR on my Shield Pro 2017 (Experience 7.2). After playing a channel for a few minutes, audio begins lagging behind the video to varying degrees. Then, after letting it play like that for a while, my video completely froze but the audio continued on. A little while after that, the audio froze too. I am able to recover by simply changing the channel and changing back to the previously-frozen channel.

Device IDs: 131102D9 and 1326E147
I believe diagnostics was turned on when this happened about 15 minutes ago.

I'm also seeing audio lag after the latest release. It's not as bad as the stuttering was but it seems to lag worse the longer it goes on.
If I change a channel then back again, it seems to correct it for a short period then it goes off again.

Does the audio jump back in sync if you seek forward or back?

Before mine locked up the video and audio completely, yes, I could get audio and video back in sync by seeking forward. I didn't try seeking backward.

I have this audio sync issue also but I am using live channels with the hdhomerun app as a source. I apologize but I am not sure how to skip around in live channels or if it even uses the same system.

For me, I am still seeing a little jitter in the video. Audio goes out of sync really quickly. FF gets it close but not quite in sync, then it goes way out again. Also, periodic (maybe a minute to 3 minutes apart and varying) complete audio dropouts. Using a wired network. Diagnostics are enabled and running

I been holding off installing the 20190123a version on my Shield, monitoring the forum for new problems. Have auto updates turned off and had reinstalled 2018 version after the 20190122 version installed, which caused the stuttering. (Can't chance freaking out my wife again.)

HOWEVER, my MiBox 3 (USA Version) now has the new update and is going out of sync. Have to exit to the recordings menu and then go back to LIVE to get it back in sync.

Tried to watch SNL on channel 1011 (KARE 11 Minneapolis) and it was unwatchable. The audio was rapidly switching between stereo and 5.1 and my receiver just could not keep up. I tried it in both HDHomeRun app and in Live Channels with HDHomeRun source and the behavior was the same. My Prime is on firmware 20180817 and the device ID is 132333FF. I believe I enabled diagnostics in the HDHomeRun app.

Yes. The shield audio sync is also broken for me. ABC is one of the channels. Seems to be the reverse from before.
Before it was drm channels now it is the non drm channels.

Never mind drm gets way out of synch the longer it plays.

Opt out of beta and save yourself the headaches. I used to want to live on the edge to have all the latest updates, but have been burned too many times. I don't have the time to troubleshoot shit all the time.

Hello, Nick. Would you like me to make a recording using a DVR or just record the TV screen with my phone?
