Live TV viewing always records to DVR

Postby consorts » Sun Jan 06, 2019 6:13 pm

anyone having this problem? it seems to be happening all the time
whether i'm watching on a pc app or streaming on a firetv box app.
we are not clicking anywhere on the screen, simply launching the
app and the first channel it displays starts recording and will not stop
until we exit the app completely.

If you have the DVR, the content gets played through the DVR in the LiveTV Folder to be used as the buffer (unless the channel is DRM protected or is being played from a legacy device)

DVR in the LiveTV Folder to be used as the buffer
while this makes sense, i've had this setup for nearly 2 years and didn't notice it always doing this till recently. in addition everything here is wired to a gig switch, and i have extends which do the x264 (mobile) transcoding on the fly with all my screens set at 720p output, so why it would need to buffer anything is beyond me.

I'm with you, this didn't start happening to me until a few months ago. This isn't a buffer like it was before, this is a complete file that is created and unlike the buffer that is removed when you stop or change channels, this stays until you manually delete it. I have lots of space so it's not a problem for me but for those with limited space, that would be a problem.

It has always written to the LiveTV folder where your DVR resides this has always been the case... nothing has changed and my LIVETV folder gets cleaned up as soon as I stop watching (might take a few secs)... Now if you do not have the DVR installed then it will record for time shifting locally... but each device will use a tuner.

Yes and no for me but I think I know what my 'problem' is. LiveTV folder does get cleaned up when live tv is stopped but I think MCEBuddy is creating a file and that's what's left in my recordings folder. I'll check it tonite and see if that's the case. Either way, it just started happening a few months back so it could be MCEBuddy's update that caused this for me. I should have thought about this before!
