HDHomeRun DVR Linux?

Postby mxlance » Mon Dec 24, 2018 7:05 am

I currently use HDHR DVR on mac. My mac is having issues so I need to look at other options to run HDHR DVR on.

1) My preferance would be to run it on LibreElec on a raspberry Pi 3B+.

2) Second choice on an old PC running Xubuntu.

Is my first choice possible?

Looking thru the Install instructions my second choice does seam possible but I have concerns about long term support and how well it works on linux.

Thank you

I used it on a Linux Mint MATE machine for a bit, before deciding to go with Channels, instead. Worked flawlessly.

Either is possible but i don't recommend a pi if you expect to record more than 1 or 2 streams at a time. Also you probably would not want to use the same pi as a client at the same time (though the 3b+ might work for such).

As far as the engine goes i would guess close to 90% are using linux as "any" NAS install would be using such. But perhaps you were asking about client.

Thank you for the replies.

I was planing on using the pi only as a media server with HDHR DVR record and Emby server.

We rarely record two streams at the same time and are only serving at max two clients at one time.

I could not find any info on loading HDHR DVR record into LibreElec, any ideas?
I do not have any experience with Docker, could that work?

Thank you again

Hi,

We dully support Linux on x86, x64, and ARM platforms. Some PPC platforms are also supported.

The Raspberry Pi hardware isn't well suited to running a hard drive. I have just started playing with an Asus Tinker-Board which is similar to a Raspberry Pi but a lot more powerful. Still USB 2.0 however.

A PC running Xubuntu will work - running Xubuntu myself.

Thank you for the reply.
That answers what i deeded to know.
I am now thinking of replacing MacOS on my Mac mini 2009 with Xubuntu.
I am considering adding a SSD to run Xubuntu and Running MacOS on a second internal drive.
Just in case I need to boot macos/use a mac.

Thanks again
