When Will New UI Be Pushed Out?

Postby otaku » Fri Nov 16, 2018 12:19 pm

I've been reading online the new HDHomeRun UI is currently being pushed out.

Is this accurate?

Actually...

This article indicates that it started happening yesterday...

That's why I was asking about the accuracy of reports like this.

SD has been retweeting a number of reviews the last 2 days so I guess it has to be soon. Maybe by Black Friday!

We'll definitely be the last to know when it happens. Some third world tech news site will surely get the scoop before we do.

Well I hope that part of the UI is when watching TV and you go to discover it pauses instead of ending it.... but in the end I think it will be a disappointment.

I just want a last a last channel option that every other Live TV solution seems to have.

It's unreal how they can't even deliver the low hanging fruit at his point.

It's clear they've been focusing on other revenue generators rather than on the things they've promised.

so, what must we do to get a free 2-week premium trial?
that would be nice to have working during winter break
when ota tv is mostly reruns and xmas specials.

advice to sd: use this trail period to metadata what channels
people actually watch and discover few care for live sports
so you can drop espn's and make the monthly $10 cheaper.

I want to take a second to make absolutely clear that we've had developers working full time and exclusively on the UI for months and months. Certainly far longer than I've been here. This I'm certain of. What I'm less certain of is why we should bother tolerating someone literally making up conspiracy theories in our forums. Please stop simply making up facts. It's not a great look.

Nate, when a company promises something for over a year, fails to deliver but finds the time to roll out an entirely new product and associated revenue stream that was not previously a core part of their business, paying customers will rightly wonder if there there had been a shift in business priorities.

I agree I feel like us Prime users that have been loyal customers for a long time have been left behind.... Prime users are now the bottom of the feeding chain.

Nate claims in another thread that the UI is almost ready and just needs a few more tweaks.

The fact is that conspiracy theories only arise in the absence of reliable accurate information. Want them to stop, just start fully communicating with the forum. If there is a PR release, make sure there is a post in the forum at or around the same time, maybe with a link and some further explanation. When you open your development to public source funding, you open your company to extra communications requirements.

No reasonable person expects due dates, but to know the project is in alpha testing, feature complete, beta testing, etc. is positive (if true). To know that a development team of 2 to 5 people is working full time is positive (if true). To know that the project is waiting 3rd party approvals is positive (if true). See what I mean. I am sure there are many more examples of facts that can be communicated without positioning SD in a corner.

In a forum there will, of course, always be a few that will always be negative. But these people are easy to detect and most forum readers will ignore them. Most of the people posting negative here are responding to lack of performance of SD. While you see the messages here and they hurt, the messages in places SD does not control are much worse. Focusing on bad messages here just makes it look like SD has more interested in hiding the truth, than fixing the problems.

For a good development communication example see the PostgreSQL database development project. They are one of the top open source projects that compete successfully with products from Oracle, Microsoft, and others. They have all of their development communications open to the public and competitors. Not suggesting you should do the same, but there is a much better spot for SD between the secretive current operation and the fully open procedures of PostgreSQL. This middle position is required when you accept Kickstarter funds.

In summary you want us to believe that SD is doing good, but we have no recent positive performance to be able to rely on. If you want us to believe then provide something for us to believe in other than, "Trust us it'll be ok." That sentiment is past its working lifetime.
