Anyone hear any updates on this issue with the 4k stick yet? My ESPN, ESPN 2, and now CMT all freeze randomly from it. Luckily March Madness isn't on those channels so I've been able to watch college basketball. I bought 3 of these 4k sticks when there was a Xmas sale. My other original Fire Sticks all don't have this issue.

Nothing beyond what has already been posted. Amazon has fixed the MPEG2 issue internally and is QA testing it as part of a system update, expected to be released by the end of Q2.

Does anyone have any update on this? I am unable to playback videos recorded from my HDHomerun or live TV on my 4k Fire Stick either. Really annoying as it used to work until the last firmware upgrade.

I'm getting audio visual sync issues when I use version 20190319 from the Amazon app store. When I used the old version of the app, version 20180803 I didn't have any sync issues.

Audio gets out of sync with video frequently. Once I change the channel it fixes itself. This is never an issue when viewing on any other devices.

Go into settings on your Fire Stick and change your audio to Stereo only. If it's set to auto then it'll try to figure out the best audio for every channel and it tends to throw it off and it'll be like bad Kung Fu movies with voiceovers.

This definitely seems to help with my FS4K! It also helped my FTV3s which recently started stuttering. Thanks!

Maybe it's just the 'auto' feature that is broken. Couldn't you change the settings to 'Always Dolby Digital'?

It's the asinine way Amazon is implementing audio that's the issue. I want pass-thru to work, which you'd think would be the simplest thing, but they make it hard for some reason.

the old version of the app, version 20180803
hi, is there any way to get the old version on a new 4k stick ?
the 2019 version from the app store works like total crap :?
even vlc works better at using my extend tuners than hdhr.

update; so skimming this thread someone suggested
side loading kodi then using the older hdhr client thru that.
so then my question is, where do i find that aug2018 file?

NVM, i found this faq;
viewtopic.php?f=126&t=20538
added Downloader app to my fire 4k
downloaded kodi 17.6 using downloader
installed kodi, then ran the hdhr app already
on my stick from amazon, but run thru kodi,
playback is a slight video:audio out of sync...

i still would prefer finding the older app version and using that.
maybe there's an FTP sight with android apk files we can use?
https://apkpure.com/hdhomerun/com.silicondust.view
i found above... tried V20180803 - not much improvement :?
i'm may jailbreak my stick, so maybe that will improve things...

There's some confusion here. I can't dispute the claim that the older version might have worked better (as I didn't have my personal 4k Fire TV stick at the time to test with), but I have my doubts, as the issue should affect any version, and any app, that uses the hardware decoder (and probably in combination with normal broadcast video/audio codecs, or else all the Netflix users would complain as well).

That being said, if you use Kodi then Kodi should work just by itself, and not require the app to even be installed. Kodi can fall back to using software decoding, which is why it normally will have better results.

There's no real "jailbreaking" of Fire TV hardware. The term mainly comes from being able to install unapproved or unsigned software, which can already be done on the Fire TV via sideloading. For whatever reason, a lot of people will use the term for rooting the device, and I would not expect that to help with video playback.

it doesn't help enough. the 2019 hdhr app will unsync audio:video then stall and hang intermittently.
the older 2018 hdhr app will also unsync audio:video, but it does not seem to stall and hang as much.

man, this sucks... my old 2k stick does hdhr better than their latest 4k model.
now i'm stuck using my hdhr thru vlc like i do on my 4k roku; this sucks ballz.

the only device i have that can "show off" my hdhr install is a 5" smartphone
maybe we'll get lucky and by xmas the newest 2019 nvidia shield will make
it possible to get the older 2015&17 nvidia shield iterations more affordably.

UPDATE: i just added a wire 100 ethernet dongle to my fire tv 4k stick
sharing a 1gig switch with my router nas tuners = there is no net benefit.
i just thought i should post this in case someone thought it would help;
it doesn't... i still get frame skips and then eventually audio losing sync.

Does anyone have an update on the 4k stick being fixed to watch live TV? I've gone back to solely the original First Sticks because the 4k stick still freezes on most channels and it's now June 19th with no fix in sight. There was even update to the 4k stick that did nothing. They said by the end of Q2. We need this fix or Amazon needs to replace these with the latest 4k model.
