Re: Fire Stick 4k
I got this from SD Customer Support Today:
There is an issue with the MPEG2 video decoder in the FireTV Stick 4K. Symptoms of the issue include a flashing green screen, video pausing/stuttering which may result in audio desynchronization, or the decoder or app crashing after a period of time. This primarily affects interlaced (480i/1080i) channels. A bug report has been opened with Amazon, as this issue affects all apps trying to decode this kind of video, not just the HDHomeRun app. Amazon has confirmed the issue on their end and identified that it is due to a bug in the driver for a component in the Fire TV Stick 4K, and they are awaiting an update from the manufacturer. Once received, this update would be included with a firmware update for the Fire TV device, run through Amazon QA testing, and then released via their normal firmware update mechanism. We do not have any kind of timeframe on when that might happen, as Amazon does not release that information.

Re: Fire Stick 4k
Great news, thanks! I have also had the flashing green screen but on only one channel so I thought it was the station having some kind of issue.
Glad Amazon has finally acknowledged its on their end, the response I got from them blamed the HDHR app.

It has been almost 1 month since Amazon acknowledged the issue and told me they were working on it. Hopefully the vendor provides the fix soon. This is taking quite a long time to fix.

Do you have an issue tracker type thing where one could add additional statements of unhappiness with the current state of affairs. I've just tried this out yesterday again to see where things are at and it doesn't take me more than a handful of minutes before the 4k stick dies on me with a 1080i OTA stream

Re: Fire Stick 4k
I have just received a call from amazon support after leaving a 1 star review on the amazon fire stick 4k. They basically just said that they are aware of the problem and will release the update when they have a fix. No timeline on when that will be. Could be soon, could be not so soon. So I am stuck with a fire stick 4k that does me no good, and an nvidia shield that has driver issues on certain channels.
Re: Fire Stick 4k
The Channels app offers a software decoder which works on both of the FireTV 4K Stick and the SHIELD. It will work around the green screen, video hangs and other driver issues.Cayuga89Stang wrote: ↑Wed Jan 23, 2019 5:47 pmI have just received a call from amazon support after leaving a 1 star review on the amazon fire stick 4k. I am currently using the channels dvr app. It is working well, although a touch on the pricey side. Wish they had a lifetime payment instead of the monthly or yearly. Thanks.tmm1 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 23, 2019 6:29 pmThe Channels app offers a software decoder which works on both of the FireTV 4K Stick and the SHIELD. Re: Fire Stick 4k
It seems this may finally be fixed soon. I hope so. He doesn't specify exactly what will be fixed but there is promise. So far none of mine have received the update as of today.

Re: Fire Stick 4k
So, I ordered my Fire Stick 4K before seeing this thread which had me a bit worried. I'm happy to report that when I first set it up and tested TV streams from my Homerun, I also experienced the green flickering screen. However, once I applied the available system update the problem was resolved. It would appear that the issue has been corrected and the update is being pushed out to users.

Re: Fire Stick 4k
The green screen bug was fixed a month or so ago, but there are still some hangs/crashes on interlaced content (particularly interlaced h264) which have been promised but not yet delivered.

Re: Fire Stick 4k
Another update. They resolved the MPEG deinterlace issue but the fix won't come via an OTA update until by the end of Q2. I find this to be a bit ridiculous to make us wait. We've been waiting months already. They had the fix the end of January and now we have to wait until potentially June to get the fix. There's also an H264 deinterlace issue that hasn't been fixed yet. I can avoid the MPEG deinterlace issue by using my Emby server to transcode and deinterlace the stream but I don't like that approach for a device that should be playing it directly. There's quite a bit of delay changing channels until the transcode gets going.

Re: Fire Stick 4k
Guess I still won't be buying one of these any time soon. (This is pretty appalling performance on Amazon's part, IMO.)

Re: Fire Stick 4k
I am really starting to hate the Firestick 4K … When playing Prime Video Jack Ryan 4K the player switches to 1080P when I watch the same on the Shield I get 4K video. I would have thought that the Firestick would be able to play Prime Video 4K.
Maybe a Prime user that has FireStick 4K and 4K TV can see if this also happens on their end ?
Edit
Got Amazon help and they said that sometimes it takes a while to Identify 4K to give it time and it will switch …. In fact it did eventually switch to Ultra HD HDR.
