Performance and Stuttering Issues Ipad Pro 9.7

Postby ppilot » Fri Apr 27, 2018 8:41 am

So since the last update I've been noticed stuttering and hanging even when I basically have a perfect Wi-Fi connection. I've tested out MrMC at the same locations and was able to stream high quality movie rips with no issues. Basically the iOS app is useless right now it's so bad.

How high quality though? Some OTA Mpeg2 streams take of the same bitrate as an uncompressed Bluray.

Did you uninstall and reinstall? That seems to fix these issues.

Ipad Pro 9.7
IOS 11.3.1
WDMyCloudMirror NAS
HDHomeRun Prime
Two Routers between Ipad Pro and the NAS

No performance or stuttering here. Plays video and audio perfectly.

I too have pauses every few seconds on my Airpad 2 after the latest update and App store reinstall, and despite being within a few feet of the router. On IOS 11.3.1, and I don’t have DRM. No problems before update, and Channels app works fine.

Issue is still present. Have confirmed that it is an issue with the App as none of my other streaming apps are having issues.

Confirm studdering after update with air 2. Seems mostly on 1080i content. 720p okay. Pauses every couple seconds continuously when problem station tuned. No significant problem before update.

We would like to get some diagnostic data.

If you are using a Windows PC:
  1. If you have not already done so, please install the latest beta HDHomeRun Software for Windows from viewtopic.php?f=119&t=20613
  2. Run HDHomeRun Setup, enable “Send diagnostic information...” on the Advanced tab and click Apply. If you do not have an Advanced tab, close HDHomeRun Setup and reopen it.
  3. Unplug the power from the HDHomeRun and plug it back in
  4. After the powerup sequence finishes, click “Scan” on the Digital Antenna or CableCARD tab
  5. Click OK
If you are using a Mac:
  1. If you have not already done so, please install the latest beta HDHomeRun Mac software from viewtopic.php?f=119&t=20613
  2. Open Terminal and run:

    Code: Select all

    hdhomerun_config ffffffff set /sys/debug debug_enabled=10
  3. Unplug the power from the HDHomeRun and plug it back in
  4. After the powerup sequence finishes, run a channel scan on the HDHomeRun's web page

Then, on the iPad:
  1. Open the HDHomeRun app
  2. Press play/pause 13 times to bring up the settings screen
  3. Enable Send diagnostic information
  4. Watch live TV on a problem channel for 10 minutes
Reply back with the device ID for your HDHomeRun and we will check the logs.

From a single prime tuner

To add more info on iPad Air2 pauses

Pauses are occurring running on iOS 11.4 beta 2 also. Running same version on later iPad Pro...there are no pauses. Testing Air2 was noticeable on protected AVC channels...changed to non protected 720p had no pauses...changed to non protected 1080i had pauses.

Both are HDHR ver 20180419 1.

Diag turned on for Air2.

@jasonl

More info (Air2):

Channels (live) plays all of the same streams without incidence

Insta TV Pro crashes back to main menu trying to play AVC, 1080i, however plays 720p.

Edit: Note that playback of AVC source on other players are non protected channels.

Please play for 10 minutes on a single channel on this so we can get a good look at the overall data. There's not enough there to distinguish anything when you're flipping through channels.

So, confirming, 433 was the stuttering channel?

Also, are you aware you have 3 DVRs running? 2 different Linux plus Android?

Channel 433 is 720p and didn’t appear to stutter.
432 is 1080i, 423 is AVC non DRM, 460 is AVC DRM.

Thanks for the headsup on multiple engines. Hadn’t noticed the Android...I’ll delete.

On the 2 linux...both contain older movie recordings (viewable) with one running “null” on record path. Anyway, have not used DVR for recording for well over a year (except several tests)...waiting until DRM is available. :D
