Yes because tvOS does not allow HTTP based interfaces so they have to write a whole new UI just for AppleTV. Meanwhile one HTTP base UI works for all the other systems including iOS.
Will tvOS 12 support HTTP based interfaces?

Is there a beta out there or an estimated beta release date?

The current Yamahas are pretty nice and have all the bells and whistles. When you start looking make sure to check Costco as they carry carbon copies of the other Yamahas at a much better price than even online. The Costco ones are tag as TSR instead of RX, but it's just a branding thing and the TSRs are the same exact piece of equipment just a different set of initials. The specific model we got was the TSR-7810 ($850 MSRP) that we bought at Costco for $450 a few months ago.
Yes, I noticed a Yamaha receiver at our local Costco last couple times we wandered in there. I always peruse the "toy aisles" when we go to Costco :) (Much to my wife's consternation.) That TSR-7810 does appear to garner good reviews, from just a cursory look.

However I'm pleased to announce my requirements have all been met, every last one of them, with a Gen. 2 Amazon Fire TV. Digital Dolby 5.1 via TOSLINK on everything (with the addition of a J-Tech audio extractor), IR remote (with the addition of a Flirc USB IR receiver), HDHR app (does not crash on channel changing, pause/play/ff/rew/etc.), Netflix, Amazon Prime and One America News.

I am so freaking happy with this thing Image I just pulled the trigger on a 2nd one, before they're all gone.
@Jseymour, just an updated on this. We got our TSR-7810 completely setup with the Polk Audio Vanish RT series as a 5.1.2 / 7.1 speaker setup (9 speakers) and it sounds incredible, especially with the Atmos overheads (70-RT) when running in 5.1.2.

Thanks for the update, Matt. Glad it's working out well for you :)

I solved my problem less expensively. Amazon FireTV v2 and a J-Tech HDMI/S/PDIF splitter. Switched to the Fancy Bits Channels suite of DVR (running on a Synology DS218+) and apps. Got 5.1 DD on the HT system, subtitles we can love on every device, matrix guides, remote viewing on our iPads and iPhones. Life is good :)

Only issue is the J-Tech splitter is occasionally playing up. Got a bit more debugging to do before I contact them. They're reported to have bend-over-backwards-for-the-customer support, so I'm confident that'll be worked out.

Hello is there any news regarding a test flight for the Apple TV app? I would be very interested in hearing an update on whether this is still being planned.

Like to add my vote for ATV (tvOS) app, in any form...being able to add tasks and/or even just viewing. Of course, a full featured app is preferable...but I’ll take anything that is offered...with hopes of improvements/additional features in the future. Additionally, the Discovery process is in dire need of re-vamp to be useful for any client app.

Are these forums monitored or? I'm just not sure if this is a good place to post requests or if there is somewhere else we should be directing these.

IIRC, they are waiting for the completion of the UI update before beginning a tvOS app for Apple TV. (Requires a totally NEW, separate program for Apple TV UI)

Okay, the next major version of tvOS is out today. Any chance SiliconDust will finally release their own app? Here's hoping...!

Nope...UI update for existing apps not complete, meaning they haven't started on a tvOS app.

Agreed. tvOS12 has made the ATV 4K the king of streaming boxes. This is now not just a nice to have, it is a need to have.
