Announcement: XBox One protected channel support

Postby nickk » Wed Feb 01, 2017 10:16 pm

After a crazy amount of work we can now announce live TV protected channel support on XBox One.

It may take up to a day for the update to show up on your XBox... when it does you should be able to watch protected channels.

Nick

PS - If XBox is working for you please consider helping us by writing a quick review in the app store...

Ah congrats!

Here's hoping Android not too far behind since I've double downed on that setup :)

Hi Nick,

That's great news! Stupid question but since Windows 10 and XBONE both use the Universal App, how come it doesn't work on Windows 10? Is the decryption utilizing something that's only in the Xbox and not Windows 10?

If you have a Win10 device with a built in screen (laptop, tablet, or all-in-one) and it meets a long list of requirements then it may work with this release. Big-screen support is being held up over an issue we are working with Microsoft on.

I now get sound with DRM channels with my Surface Pro 4 but no picture. I'm guess thats because I don't have the DVD app. I'm not paying MS $15 for the app so it looks like I'll have to wait till the next windows update. Bummer.

Confirming, the Surface Pro 4 should play protected channels with this release if you install the Windows DVD Player app ($15). Buying the Windows DVD Player app won't be needed after the next major Win10 update (few months?).

Congrats to the SD team! Perhaps now all the doubters will tone down their comments a bit. Looking forward the next weeks and months as you push this out to the rest of the platforms.

It hasn't showed up on my Xbox yet, but it is working flawlessly on my Lenovo Ideapad Y500 laptop. Way to go guys!

So PCs won't work? Aren't the cables what ensures the encryption?

This is great. I've barely used the Xbox One app, is there a post here or a wiki on how to use it with a controller or the Xbox One media remote?
