Format USB on Nexus Player for DVR

Postby Cfost » Fri Feb 17, 2017 12:17 pm

Hello,

I have Nexus Player on Nougat and a Lexar USB 3.0 63GB stick. I have plugged the stick into my hub which is connected to the NP. When I try to format the stick in Android TV it keeps failing saying it cannot format. I've taken the stick and put on a PC and I can format to exFAT or NTFS. Any idea what would be causing this? Anyone else having this issue? I want to try out the DVR function.

Thanks

You need at least 500GB and plus the Nexus Player is only USB2... If you plan on running the DVR on it ... it won't work.

I think the OP is referring to the Live Channels DVR. If so this post is in the wrong section of the forum and should be moved to the third-party section. I not sure why it won't format correctly, but if you format it on your PC is should work on the NP.

Did you format it on your PC as exFAT ... then there is no need to format it on your nexus.

Yes formatted on Windows to exFAT then plug in to NP, it shows up but when you select the stick u have 3 options. Format as removable, format as internal, eject. Both format options fail and eject just ejects... Doesn't it have to be formatted by the NP as internal storage for this to work? Because otherwise I should see options to migrate apps to it.

Maybe you should ask in this thread.

Minimal requirement is 50GB. You need to format the device as a storage device and migrate all data in settings->storage.

But just to add:

I tried an 8GB USB 2.0 stick and it worked.
I tried a 64GB USB 2.0 stick and it did not work.
I tried a 64GB USB 3.0 stick and it did not work.

So there is some issue with formatting a large drive... anyone else encountering this?

Thank You,
Cfost
