Cox DRM and WMC Guide expiration -alternatives?

Post by patl » Mon Dec 30, 2019 7:37 am

I live in San Diego and using the HDHomerun Cable Card hardware. Cox uses DRM on most channels. My guide expires in 2020 (a few days) and I am confused abut my alternatives to continue receiving channel guide info for DVR purposes. I've seen references to EPG123 and HDHome Runs solution, but I can't tell if they will support the DRM encryption. Any help is much appreciated.

HDHomeRun DVR can't record DRM yet.

If you want to keep WMC going you can get the guide data from Schedules Direct. The Schedules Direct membership is $25 per year.
EPG123 is utility that downloads the guide data from Schedules Direct and imports it into WMC.

Also keep in mind that with dvr subscription epg123 can also use the data from it rather than schedules direct but I do believe it is easier to use schedules direct... personally i use both as getting the dvr through KS, i'm not paying annually to SiliconDust yet. If both aren't an option there are pros and cons with either approach and if it wasn't for the latest snafu in SD's software, I would be more likely to more highly recommend SD's dvr as the choice of one over the other (and continue using wmc) but twice now SD has posted release versions that totally cripple their app on several platforms with no way of going back since it is the release version (i don't mind when the early releases cause issue). What they really need is a stable platform specific "lite" version capable of drm content viewing that one can always fall back on.

Thanks for the recommendation. Sounds likk my best current option is using Schedules Direct.
