HomeRun Scribe Duo and Apple TV 4K

Post by Sandiaman » Wed Nov 13, 2019 6:53 am

Is there any third party software (an app) I can run on my Apple TV 4K with my HomeRun Scribe Duo to watch and record to the DVR build into my Scribe Duo. I just got HomeRun Duo and it is really confusing on how to use it.

There are 3rd party apps to use the tuner of a scribe... I am not aware of any on that platform that can access the scribe/servio dvr as unlike a nas or pc being used there are no shares for apps to see... only thing i can think of is possibly kodi but not sure the addons work, i just know that in the past there have been ways to get the ios version of kodi on it

That will access recordings on the scribe?

I talked to a HDHomeRun tech support person and it seems as if you cannot run the HDHomeRun app on the Apple TV (there are third party apps like Channels and it will interface with the HDHomeRun unit but will only work in the Live TV mode). The only way is to run the program on an Apple device (like my MacBook Pro laptop) and do an Airplay to display it on the TV screen via the Apple TV. The picture quality with the AirPlay is poor and does not fill the screen.

However, the rep enlightened me on the HDHomeRun app on the Sony 4K Smart TV that I have. So, I loaded the app and when I bring up the app it interfaces with my HomeRun Scribe Duo which allowed me to watch live programs, record them and play them back. I think I will just use that interface for right now.

I haven't actually tested it since I don't have an Apple TV, but DVR support was added in the final update for InstaTV, and the SCRIBE is running the same DVR software as every other platform, so I don't know any reason why it wouldn't work.
