Ignore Movies folder in Plex ?

Post by NYPlayer » Tue Apr 02, 2019 12:48 pm

Since the HdhomeRun dvr does not put the TVShows in it's own folder is there a way to ignore the Movies folder in Plex ? when adding TVShows ? Right now you see them as recently added home movies.

I can move the TVshows to a subfolder but that requires a restart of the DVR service.

They should reall change it to …. to TVShows and Movies subfolders.

Moved to the third-party software forum since this is a Plex question.

Thanks I could not get that to work … I will use Channels DVR as they correctly separate movies and tvshows and feed them to Plex.

Edit
The Live TV folder also causes problems.

The .plexignore file has been working for me. Make sure it's named exactly .plexignore with the leading dot and no extension at the end. Drop it in your main recording folder along with the hdhomerun.conf and .log files.

Code: Select all

# Ignore directories called "Movies"
Movies/*

# Ignore directories called "Sporting Events"
Sporting Events/*

# Ignore directories called "Live TV"
Live TV/*

Just wait until one of those Plex Employees (working from a feces stained Yurt somewhere in what is commonly known as a boil on the pucker-string of the Earth) 'retrogrades' Plex to a previous state (about 2 weeks ago) and dynamic storage (like your DVR storage) throws Plex into a tailspin, the wing tanks explode - crew presumed dead.

Copy DVR stuff - after it's completed - to Plex Libraries...
or...
Don't be surprised when the Plexiverse folds back on itself and The Big Bang Re-Bangs.

Plex Veterans know that it doesn't take much to confuse Plex - or it's developers.

LMAO … I wouldn't have to use Plex if the HDHomerun had a way for diff users to keep their watch status. That is also what I hate about Channels DVR.

Agreed. lol

All I know is Plex Employees and Ninjas alike ALWAYS tell folks NOT to do what you're doing, and if you continue don't be surprised when it fails. Apparently they can't get a handle on that 'partial file' nonsense and your DVR storage is all about partial files.

I solve that problem with using the HD DVR to record TV shows, It's easy to hit FF 6 or 7 times for commercial breaks on those. I use Plex to record movies with the commercial skipping feature. I use Emby to watch the movies, appears to be better quality viewing to me. I point the recording folder for HD to both Plex and Emby and use those for watching TV shows when I'm not at home. (Sometimes Plex works better, sometimes Emby works better outside the home.) HD View App is still the best for watching live TV and viewing recorded TV when I am home. Except on my 2016 Samsung TV, there is nothing that works great internally (I use my shield on that). Emby grid guide is extremely slow on it, and Plex doesn't have a decent guide yet on my Samsung. If Emby guide worked without a 4 second delay to move up or down in the guide I would reuse my shield elsewhere and use Emby on that TV

I solve that problem with...
The Rube Goldberg Video Manipulation Conglomerate Phase Rectifier:

;)

At my house everything recordable goes through MCEBuddy and is either converted or remuxed for Direct Play on any local or remote client in the Plexiverse. Painless. Automatic. Over. When I see it appear in recently added, so does everyone else and it Direct Plays on everything.

DVR storage is what MCEBuddy works out of, the end products are automatically placed into the Plexiverse, when I show up in the Channels app to schedule or check recordings I delete DVR storage that has been processed - and if the blowers are quiet, that's everything. MCEBuddy doesn't wait around. When it shows up Buddy goes to work.

I would use the HDHomeRun for all recordings but it is weak in recording movies … I have RETROHD Channel and INDIE and like to record movies of there because there are no commercials … for example I want to record all Horror movies on these channels you cannot do that in the HDHomerun … Plex or Emby … but you can do this in Channels DVR and SageTV…. So there is no real all in 1 solution.

So I am still looking for the best solution. I will probably go back to SageTV with Plex …. SageTV is the best for scheduling.
