Debbie do I have to buy the app before I try out the service?
There is a free app for your Shield (Google Play Store) - “Channels DVR” which can only be used if you have the DVR service. Same on Apple TV, Fire TV, iOS (if you ever add another device). Same functionality as paid app.

Note: There is also a paid app for those just wanting Channels functionality without DVR. Hence, be sure to add “Channels DVR” app, not the other.

No apps for PC/MAC. Use a browser to load the DVR WebUI on computer or android mobile device.

A few users have reported problems with Channels DVR and BitDefender. We are looking into it, but it might be easiest to disable it for now.

As you have now identified your Ethernet connection as a problem for HDHR, while wifi works, is it the same for Channels DVR?

As Bitdefender has presented problems for both DVR solutions...if you could disable for a day or so, then you can properly test out the two solutions. If you find Channels is more acceptable....then tmm1 on Channels forums will probably work with you to try to add back Bitdefender.

They offer a free month of the DVR service...with that they offer free apps that connect to the DVR.

If you want to try out just the app you would need to purchase it and if you didn't like it, take it up with your Store provider.
