Yeah I had a problem remotely connecting using the APP on my Android Note 9 Phone but was able to get to it using google Browser.
Probably still working out the bugs in the Android mobile devices version. They just released it last month, I think? I've been using it remotely using iOS devices.

Once Amazon gets the bugs worked out with the new 4K stick, or if it goes on sale Rilly Cheep, I'm going to buy one for remote use when we go on vacation, so we can watch "our" TV on a TV wherever we stay :)

You are correct still in Beta works great on my Android Tablet … It is just on the phone .. I joined the beta program to help debug.

I got it working on my phone forgot to set the DVR for remote access … One thing I could not find why can I not sort by original airdate on my clients to watch old recorded shows in sequence.

With the ability to try out Channels for 30 days, I'm finally taking the plunge and giving it a try.

Channels definitely has some nice features and is very polished.

I'm a little disappointed that that you can't scroll sideways to see what's on other channels on the smaller transparent channel overlay listing while watching a channel. Rather, you have to pull down the top which covers a large part of the screen and then you can only see what's on your favorite channels. Most Cable TV / Satellite boxes I've used have this type of feature where you can scroll left/right (or up down) to see what's on other channels while you watch the channel you're on with minimal disruption on the screen. HDHomerun slice view works somewhat in this way, where you can stay on a channel and scroll up down but it's more intrusive. If Channels had this feature, I'd really feel it's close to what I'm looking for.

Very surprised Channels hasn't implemented any sort of toggle last channel either. I feel they could be better in this area. I do like how Kodi shows previous watched channels in order.

I'm also kind of annoyed that on Android I can't use the volume control on the Bluetooth remote in Channels. Rather, it tells me to use the TV remote that controls my home theater receiver because the app is set in surround. Netflix does this too, but the HDHomeRun let's me control the volume using the Bluetooth remote.

In related news, I tried Emby again for the second time. I don't know how people rave about this all the time. 10-15 second channel changes make it a complete non-starter.

There is not yet a perfect app in my view. All have plusses and negatives in features. HDHomeRun isn't as bad as you think it is once you start looking at how rough and unintuitive some are.

Watching on a tablet I can scroll left and right to see what is on other channels just swipe on the overlay left or right… I do not know why you can't. The Channels android TV is more polished.

Channels makes viewing away from home so easy (big Plus) … I run it on a Shield with a USB 4TB HD. I really like the advanced pass settings … example below ...

Code: Select all

Horror Retro 833 10 recordings scheduled Categories == Movie Channel == 833 Genres == Horror

Code: Select all

Captain America 1 recording scheduled Categories == Movie Channel > 700 Title CONTAINS Captain America

If you're using a remote with a play/pause button, you can double click it to switch to the last channel.

You can turn off Surround Sound in the Android settings to fix this on all apps, or turn it off just for Channels in the Player section of the Channels app.

But will I lose surround sound on TV? I certainly wouldn't want that to happen.

Previous channel in Channels is accessed by double-pressing Play.

If Channels DVR and HDHomerun DVR both use the same recordings folder, will the apps be able to see and play each other's recordings?

No, they maintain their own separate databases. Channels can restore a database from a previous installation of itself, but you cannot import new data or recordings into it.

I see that I do. Somehow the HDHomeRun app gets around this.

If my TV supported HDMI-CEC it wouldn't be an issue, but my Samsung does not.

Is there anywhere where navigating the Channels App is documented ?
