Disappointing Quatro

Postby comet48 » Wed Aug 15, 2018 7:19 pm

I've been using a long in the tooth 2 channel unit connected to an OTA antenna. Works great. Decided that it would be nice to get 4 channels, so today purchased the Quatro. What a disappointment! I'm in the bay area, and have no problems picking up the major channels with the 2 channel unit. It also displays the signal strength for each station in plex. The Quatro, no such luck. And it fails to connect to get stations I get on the 2 channel unit. Same antenna!
Will be returning it tomorrow!

Make sure you try to update the firmware to latest first, since the older firmware it shipped with may not be able to pick up all the stations.

And I should add these units interfacing with Plex on a high end windows PC.

We would like to get some diagnostic data. Please enable the sending of diagnostic data and run a channel scan (see viewtopic.php?f=15&t=69066) then reply back with the device ID for your HDHomeRun and we will check the logs.

1074E27D is the unit ID. I also have a unit with a cable card connected to comcast. Works great.

The problem could be Plex integration with this newer unit. It doesn't seem as good, as shown by the lack of signal strength when scanning channels within Plex.

Anyway, I've done the channel scan as you asked, with diagnostics turned on.

Thanks

So as you can see from the scan, it doesn't get 7.1 - KGO at all.

Oh - on the 2 channel unit, KGO comes in full 5 bars!

We're not getting log data from the HDHomeRun itself. Please disable and re-enable the sending, then repeat the scan. Also make sure that the HDHomeRun is connected in such a way that it has internet access, and isn't being blocked by a firewall (no inbound port forwards are needed, just nothing in place to explicitly block outbound).

OK - done that. Whats interesting is that when I initially open hdhomerun, KGO shows up, but once I do a scan, it's gone.

Disappointing that Silicon Dust products have regressed over the years. Returning unit.
Thanks and best of luck with future products. Will keep an eye out and see if they are better than this one which obviously doesn't work. The idea is great - was hoping to get rid of Tivo - but execution not good.
