New NAS suggestions

Post by GGRussell »

I have the original WD 4TB NAS from the Kickstarter. Having occasional issues with it dropping from the network. Probably time to start looking for a replacement. Suggestions? Would like to keep the price down and easiest install (like the HDHomeRun setup - not manual).

I have a QNAP TS-451 and a Synology DS918+ and they weren't cheap. I like them both. The QNAP is used mostly for my work with only 1/3 used for home use. The Synology is my entertainment, computer backup and cloud. While both are set up for HDHR, I've found the Synology better suited but mostly due to it being newer and more memory. It handles Plex amazingly well. It's overkill really and not needed.
The Synology DS220+ and QNAP TS-251D are less expensive and still do most what you want if you don't need the large drives to save lots of data. There's tons of apps for each too.

I was also having issues with my 4TB WD NAS,. Took it off line. Replaced it with Beelink GS King X, running Android ATV. It is a file server that has 2 internal drive bays. Much simpler than a full blown NAS.

Thanks, will check those out. The only other app I use is the WD app that auto saves images from my phone.

I have had absolutely no problem with my WD My Cloud EX2 Ultra.
It will be 5 years old in April and has two 8TB mirrored drives.
HDHR DVR installed itself and works flawlessly.

I run Emby server on my Beelink device, and it also uploads all the pictures that I take on my phone, including text message photos.
