Signal Strength on ALL channels

Hi there
I'm having trouble with the signal strength on a number of different channels (HDHomeRun Connect Duo; UK DVB-T).
Is there a utility or tool that can scan through all the detected channels and show me the signal strength/quality for each? Like a kind of a report?

1) Login to yuour homerun device with a PC/laptop by goiing to:
my.hdhomerun.com

2) Click on your product listed and it will take you to a menu
with the follow options

Channel Lineup
Recorded Files
Tuner Status
DVR Status
System Status
Installation Instructions

3) Click on Tuner status

4) click on summary
5) Find out which of the 2 or 4 tuners are current in use. if not then tune to something on your tv to active the tuner
6) Click on the tuner number that has something active and you will see the signal quality and strength

sadly this is a 1 at a time thing and not a full list for all your channels you added

no report is availanble that i can see but maybe they can add that later on?

You can use the hdhomerun_config command line utility to run a channel scan and save the results in a text file.

Where do you run that command line from though? I just tried it in DOS command line and put in my device ID and it didnt work,
what level/directory do you run the command from?
There is no directory on the C drive that I can find with "HDHomeRun" or "SiliconDust" as the name of the directory?
Where is the app installed?
Please advise

hdhomerun_config.exe is in the C:\Program Files\Silicondust\HDHomeRun folder on my Win7 PC.

You might be able to import the data into a spreadsheet and create a graph but I never tried doing anything like that.

I obviously installed it otherwise I wouldnt have been able to watch OTA TV on my Windows laptop but the directory is NO WHERE to be found either in the Program Files or Program Files x86.
I searched for Silicon and found NOTHING
I went to the link you provided and did it again and still the same thing.
I can watch TV and my recorded shows but the directory is not showing up on my laptop. Whats the deadl?

Please advise how I can run a channel quality report?

There is the windows hdhomerun app which can come from the windows store and there is the windows hdhomerun software package that includes drivers and utilities (it will also install the viewing app). I don't run windows S but at one time such didn't let you see such programs (note that the app doesn't require drivers so many don't realize there is also additional software to (optionally) get).

Yeah, the extra drivers that come with the software are so the HDHomeRun can also work with 3rd party software that require tuners to be installed as BDA devices like Windows Media Center, it also comes with a DirectShow filter for Windows Media Player integration. The command line and gui config tools and the drivers are part of a seperate software package because by default Windows blocks direct access to the directories where Windows Store apps are installed.

Ok finally figured it out, PARTIALLY

I had only installed the Microsoft app not the full Windows program
After all it did say Windows 10 so picked that one of course
I donwloaded the .exe and installed it but now still cant get the report to run

I entered my ID # in the < > area and changed the name to name the report file to tuner0.txt but it came back with an error message:
"unable to create file: tuner0.txt"

Here is the command line I ran:
C:\Program Files\Silicondust\HDHomeRun>hdhomerun_config <Device ID #> scan /tuner0 tuner0.txt

When you put in the device id don't include the special characters <>. Just use the numbers and letters.

Here is a sample of the command that I use.
Run command from the Windows10 "Type here to search" field. This will open a DOS window with a command prompt.
Change into the SiliconDust directory path so that the hdhomerun_config.exe can be found by DOS.
cd "C:\Program Files\Silicondust\HDHomeRun\"
Now type in the following (below), replacing "10803E35" with your Hardware ID, Then replace the "0" with the tuner number you want to use. You can modify the File path and name to match your computer and what you want the output file to be named.

hdhomerun_config.exe 10803E35 scan 0 C:\Users\Me\Documents\Tuner_0.txt

Understanding the output file:
You will have the following two lines for each frequency/broadcast channel scanned. ss = the Signal Strength, snq = the Signal Quality, seq = Symbol Quality;

When there is a signal found then there will be other lines of data added.

Additionally you can run the GUI version of this program from inside Windows and from the same directory path as above. hdhomerun_config_gui.exe

You will find that the Symbol Quality rarely deviates from 100%. If it does then the channel is usually un viewable.
Both Signal Strength and Symbol Quality have viewability thresholds.

My experience has defined the following numbers for me. (YMMV)
These are the minimums for clean non pixilated pictures:
Signal Strength % >75%
Signal Quality % >70%
Symbol Quality % >100%


Here are the thresholds for poor but viewable with some stuttering and minor pixilation:
Signal Strength % >56%
Signal Quality % >60%
Symbol Quality % >85%

Example of a perfectly viewable, good audio, stutter rarely, no pixilation.
Signal Strength % 58%
Signal Quality % 68%
Symbol Quality % 100%
