Buffering issues with HD homeRun Connect and Firestick

Post by pzins1 »

I am not sure if this is supported anymore. I have the basic HD Home Run Connect HDHR4-2US. I tried to set it up today on my Fire Stick. Only 1 channel comes in. I keep getting an error message can't play channel no video data. Or sometimes I can get to a channel, but the buffering is terrible and lots of pixelating. I updated the firmware for the Connect, updated the Firestick, rebooted both, deleted some apps on my Firestick to get 1 GB space. I live in a heavily populated area of Dallas. The antenna is in the window facing east. Help?

We would like to get some diagnostic data:
  1. Please go to the http://my.hdhomerun.com/ site
  2. Click your HDHomeRun's device ID
  3. If it tells you that a firmware update is available, please install it
  4. Click System Status
  5. Check the Send diagnostic information box
  6. Go back one page
  7. Click Channel Lineup
  8. Click on Detect Channels

Reply back to this post and provide us the device ID of your HDHomeRun and we will check the logs. You can find the device ID at the top of the my.hdhomerun.com web page as well as on a label on the bottom of the HDHomeRun itself.

I'm guessing the one you get is KSTR, 49-1 (RF 34), since that's the only nearby one that's east of Dallas. Most of the channels are southwest, near Cedar Hill, with a few to the west. You might try aiming the antenna toward them. Also, although most are UHF, a few are VHF including WFAA (ABC) on 8. If your antenna is one of the flat panel types commonly placed in windows it may be UHF only.

KSTR has been off-air for over a month, and when it isn't off it's ATSC 3 and wouldn't even be found by an HDHR4-2US. Spot on about an east-facing antenna being wrong for anywhere in the city of Dallas though.
