HDHR Prime Hitting Internet sites roughly every 15 minutes?

Post by WARD » Thu Jan 16, 2020 5:04 pm

Is there any reason that my HDHR Prime would be trying to go to unsolvable Internet addresses roughly every 15 minutes? I'm just wondering if this is legit traffic or not.

Some of the sites captured over a 3 hour timeframe include:
165 [dot] 225 [dot] 73 [dot] 68
185 [dot] 6 [dot] 213 [dot] 65
185 [dot] 46 [dot] 215 [dot] 67

The device "must" contact sd every 8 hours to maintain its DeviceAuth. Check the device's log for webclient errors. It has been a few years since I have looked at such traffic but that has been the only thing i saw back then going out.

In some cases it is a dns issue that I have seen some routers appear to work at first boot (of tuner and/or router) and first connection but then fails when it tries again on 8 hours (then of course it keeps trying on such failure)

It does connect to our server to report lineup information, but those aren't our servers. A couple of them are owned by Zscaler, which looks like some sort of cloud security service, so you've probably got some of their stuff installed that is returning bogus DNS results and trying to get the HDHomeRun to run through that instead of connecting directly.
