44.1 KBCW reception (HDHR5-4US) in Bay Area, CA

Post by chuckles67 » Tue Jan 14, 2020 9:25 pm

I have a HDHR5-4US connected to a roof mounted antenna Winegard HD7694p which gives perfect reception on Fox, CBS, ABC, PBS, and NBC - all with Signal Quality of 90-100. The antenna was installed late-summer last year by a local professional - Channel 45 (44.1 KBCW) had poor Signal Quality and was unwatchable. Then from early November this 44.1 channel worked great with a Signal Quality of 80 or more through early January, when the Signal Quality suddenly dropped and all 44.1 broadcast programs are now unwatchable. I haven't found any contact information to report this - would someone know how I can contact TheCW channel regarding 44.1 broadcast quality in the Bay Area?

There's a lot of work happening on Sutro Tower right now to prepare for changes that will be happening due to the TV frequency repack. Part of this work includes replacing several of the antennas on top of the tower, including KBCW's. They're running on a temporary antenna at reduced power right now, and when work is being done in the vicinity of the temporary antenna, they have to switch to their backup, which is much further down the tower and operates with even less power. All the work should be done and everyone back to full power by 5/1, assuming nothing goes wrong.

Sutro Tower Auxiliary Antenna Operation Notification

Happy New Year!

You are receiving this email because you have asked to be placed on our auxiliary antenna operation mailing list.

Sutro Tower, Inc. is continuing the FCC mandated television repack work and stations operating from Sutro Tower will continue to switch between their main and auxiliary antennas for the next several months. There may be some service interruptions for off air viewers and listeners during these times depending on where you live. The levels of RF emissions, particularly in the area around Summit Reservoir just to the east of Sutro Tower, are higher when auxiliary antennas are in use, but still significantly below City, State, and Federal emission guidelines for exposure. Part of this project is to move some auxiliary antennas higher on Sutro Tower to reduce ground level emissions even further.
