I just purchased a new HDHomeRun CONNECT DUO and it failed to work when connected to my network, with a flashing green light indicating it wasn't able to get an IP address using DHCP. I even tried setting a fixed IP address mapped to the MAC address, and also plugged it in directly to a port on the Router, but nothing fixed the problem. I have never had any issues with any of the many other devices I have used on the network, so decided to analyze the DHCP packets to try to understand what was different.
From this it became clear that the difference is that the HDHomeRun devices are setting the BROADCAST bit in the DHCPDISCOVER 'flags' field, and the router is unable to respond back to this across subnets. As I have a Wifi Air Point on the network that can act as a DHCP Relay Agent I tried enabling this, and it has worked around the problem and the HDHomeRun is now fully operational. I hope this helps anyone with similar issues.
Reception, channel detection, network issues, CableCARD setup, etc.
