You should be able to enable file sharing for the "HDHomeRunDVR" directory in the Synology Control Panel user the "Shared Folder" icon. Then under the "File Services" icon you can enable or disable different file sharing protocols that are used for the shared folders.
Clicking "Shared Folder" in the control panel reveals 3 shared folders:
- HDHomeRun (which I created myself earlier and I think is irrelevant);
- Photo (which I use for photos);
- web

"File Services" reveals that there is a HDHomrRunDVR directory under 'web'. But I could not see this using "Shared Folder". I cannot see how to do what you have described.

OK - I may have more progress. I've mapped my R: drive on win10 to HDHomeRunDVR folder on NAS. But where are the recordings?

The web/HDHomeRunDVR is not what you want

See that post again - specifically the section "How to expose the default RecordPath as a share (or even just see it in FileStation)"

That will allow u to manage the folder as a share

This is a little technical for me. I don't know how to "SSH" to the NAS....

It's pretty straight forward
Download an SSH client app like PuTTY
Connect to you NAS IP address using an adminstrator login
Then you can run those commands.

If you're too wary.. we could try something else, but am not sure if it will work fully
1. In File Station Create a new Shared Folder... e.g MyDVR.. Make sure to remove the 'Restrict access to administrators only' checkbox
2. Under permissions change the drop down box to 'Local groups'
3. set http to have read/write access
4. Now switch to the DVR mgmt UI on the NAS
5. Stop the DVR and change the recordPath to /volume1/MyDVR and update
6. Start the DVR again
7. Refresh the UI page (F5) and check all is working there - then check creating a recording

Rik - OK, your alternative procedure looks to have worked. I can see recorded programs in in the shared folder I created. Thanks.

I see the program recording sits within a folder specific to the recorded program. I suppose the folder is intended to encapsulate a "series"? Bit of a hassle for me as I am going to want to transfer the recordings to another place from where they can be processed....
