DVR Setup - Not Seeing my NAS

Post by Rau » Mon Dec 16, 2019 10:12 pm

I'm setting up the DVR (in Australia). I have one HDHR4-2DT installed & Live TV works. My PC is Windows 10.

Working through these instructions:
https://info.hdhomerun.com/info/dvr:nas:synology

Steps 1 to 7 done, however at Step 8, only 2 of my 3 Synology NAS devices show up. The one that does NOT show up is the one I had used in following steps 1 to 5!! [The one not showing up is a DS718+ running DMS6.2.2-24922 update 2; a DS212 and a DS410 do show up, as do a few other devices.]

How do I resolve this problem?

many thanks.

Thanks for the reply, but That process seems a bit more complex. There must be a simple cause of the problem I’m experiencing??

For the nas to be seen by setup, a upnp (dlna) server must be running on it. But personally i would always do a manual install or if it is a qnap, synology or asustor use the appropriate package from demonrik which will have the advantage to autostart (sd only supports such on wd)

It's actually easier than it seems at first. Just download the most recent SPK from https://drive.google.com/folderview?id= ... sp=sharing and then use the manual install button in the Synology package manager. It installs the same DVR, plus it auto-starts if the NAS has to reboot. Eventually we'll have the same thing set up as an "official" SPK, but demonrik does a great job and even throws in a nice GUI, in case you ever need to change the configuration file.

The Windows NAS install tool works alright normally, but the UPnP/DLNA detection doesn't always work quite right (assuming the NAS is running a UPnP service, which a Synology should be doing by default, IIRC, but maybe it got turned off or some weird network thing is preventing it from being detected.)

OK - I think I've done what's required. It appears that I can record programs, but I'm not sure that I really can.
  • Nothing ever appears under "Recorded" on the app's menu. All I ever see on that screen is "Your HDHomeRun DVR is ready to record".
  • In "Tasks", I see items marked to be recorded that are now in the past.
Also - how do I find the files for recorded programs? I want to access them in order to edit / process them.

Also - when I access the webpage (Synology HDHomeRun DVR Manager), the screen is mostly blank (green). There are msgs on the screen saying "Unable to discover DVR version, and across the bottom of the screen, "Unable to discover DVR status followed by a vertical bar, then nothing more. If I click on "Dashboard", I get a message commencing "This site says....." followed by several lines of HTML code and ending with "status: 405". If I click on "Recordings" a circle icon rotate in middle of screen for quite a while, then "Found: 0 Recordings" appears. If I click on the gear symbol, same circle icon appears, but it goes on for quite a while, the finally spits out:

Something didn't go right with the install. Does the NAS have internet access? If you're using a static IP, do you have the correct gateway and DNS server addresses set?

I have dynamically assigned IP addresses on my home LAN. I would expect the NAS has internet access. Eg it is able to do synology updates etc.

I've uninstalled it an re-installed it.

Re-installation was unremarkable. Synology responds "This package does not contain a digital signature. Are you sure you want to continue?". I assume that's ok and clicked "yes". "Run after installation" was already checked on the next screen. Installation was just a few seconds. Then in Package Center, Under the heading "Installed", I click Open (for HDHomeRun DVR Manager), and the situation is just as I reported previously.

FYI - since I had previously started following the standard Silicon Dust install instructions, I previously created a Shared Folder which remains: "HDHomeRun"

That additional shared folder won't make any difference

Make sure you install as an administrator.

Code: Select all

---------- Config File ----------------------------------------------------------
Location = /volume1/@appstore/HDHomeRunDVR/etc/HDHomeRunDVR.conf Does Not Exist
Is indicating that either the install failed, or permissions are wrong.
Have you checked the workarounds viewtopic.php?p=309570#p309570 in particular the "No UI -> open_basedir"...
Are u ok with ssh to NAS and run a few commands?

the fact that your NAS is not appearing in SDs tools, and looks like the connectivity checks are failing you do seem to have a network issue on this NAS. could be a firewall, bad interface, router config, vpn?

I've opened Webstation and it reports (under General), Default server status is normal, Personal website status is Disabled. Following back-end packages shows as installed: Nginx, PHP7.0, PHP7.2 Under PHP settings, Profile Name is "Default Profile", PHP Version is "PHP 7.2", Description is "Default 7.0 Profile". Editing this opens the "Advanced Settings" screen. Two boxes are checked: "Enable PHP Cache" and "Customise PHP open_basedir. This is followed by:

open_basedir: /tmp:/var/services/tmp:/var/services/web:/var/services/homes

I think I was supposed to clear out that text commencing /tmp:........ so I've now done that. All check boxes under Extensions are unchecked.

I stopped and then Uninstalled HDHomerunDVR package. I've manually installed it again. And now on firing it up, it tells me:
"Record Engine Version: 20190815beta1
Across the bottom of the screen: "HDHomeRun RECORD running | 20191219-23:58:48 Status: Resource: nbk=0 dmk=232"

The Dashboard and Recordings functions seem operable.
On clicking the gear wheel, the information presented below appears.

I have successfully recorded something. So thanks very much - we have progress!

My next issue is how to access the recorded files for editing and/or processing.

Regards

You should be able to enable file sharing for the "HDHomeRunDVR" directory in the Synology Control Panel user the "Shared Folder" icon. Then under the "File Services" icon you can enable or disable different file sharing protocols that are used for the shared folders.
