Decoding Local TV

Post by firemantom26 » Mon Aug 19, 2019 6:17 pm

After I read the article about the HDHR4 I am returning it for the HDHR5 version.

I get false signals and it won't decode Pittsburgh stations that I get 24/7 on any TV hooked to the same antenna.

Back to the drawing board...

I sure hope the HDHR5 will be better.

Thanks
Tom

What do you mean by decode... both will work fine for US OTA stations.

From your other thread, it sounds like you were having issue with your computer, not the device and needing codecs. Have you run a channel scan? Have you installed the mpeg2 codec from the windows store? Have you installed and run the HDHomeRun App? When you tune a channel, what are your signal levels like (your other thread was about signal levels but you never reported what they were). If at 100% strength you are most likely over powering them, and each generation has been more susceptible to problems of too high a signal (i.e. a 1st or second gen may handle 150%+ while a 3rd gen may handle 130%, while a 4th gen 120% and a 5th gen 110% but you will not see how much over 100% it is... I will admit these numbers are made up but were used to show such decline... for most people the newer generations of tuners are better provided they have the right antenna and do anything needed to be done to correct the signal if out of "spec" of what the tuner needs but I have found the older tuners work better in most possible locations but that's because there are lots of locations that there aren't many people but still can get a station or two)

Yes, I have did all the things that was required to do.

I have a local station that is only a few miles away the comes in fine but stations that are 50 air miles are the ones that are giving me grief.

Some decode and others don't I am not at home but the signal signal were around 75 that would not decode.

When I use the word decode I mean to able watch the station.

Please enable the sending of diagnostic data on the HDHomeRun and run a channel scan (https://info.hdhomerun.com/info/trouble ... iagnostics) then reply back with the device ID for your HDHomeRun and we will check the logs.
