Ongoing Reception issues

Post by cgfern » Sun Aug 18, 2019 11:51 am

Hello all. Giving a post here a try as i'm not having much luck troubleshooting on my own.

I have an HDHomeRun Duo, connected to a GE Pro long range antenna https://www.amazon.com/GE-29884-Outdoor ... B01MYMVPVX.

No matter what I try the channels are jittery and freeze up constantly. Im using the signal GH app and can see I'm about 24 miles away from the tower cluster. I've got the antenna pointed nearly spot on, 98% quality but only 62% strength.

Any suggestions?

Did you have strength and quality backwards? You didn't mention station and/or market as that may be a poor antenna choice for some channels and/or there may be tower work going on in the area thus reducing strength. Where did you mount it? If indoors, what is the home's construction material like (including roof).

Nope, they're not backwards. Below is a screenshot. Im in the Wilmington, NC market and one channel that is especially troublesome is WECT. The antenna is indoors currently. It's a standard two story home, asphalt shingles, hardy board siding, wood stud frame etc. I could understand tower work impeding signal, but this has been going on since I got the HDHomeRun, about 10 months now and multiple antenna attempts.

Please enable the sending of diagnostic data on the HDHomeRun (https://info.hdhomerun.com/info/trouble ... iagnostics), run a channel scan, and watch live TV on the problem channel for at least 10 minutes. Reply back with the device ID for your HDHomeRun and we will check the logs.

Thanks, I have enabled sending of diagnostic data for the device (ID: 10653563) and the Client as well in the event you need them.

The logs indicate you're encountering severe network packet loss. How are the HDHomeRun and the device you're watching on connected network-wise?

My HD homerun is connected to my router via a cat5 cable and the client is connected to the router via wifi.

The wireless doesn't seem to be able to keep up with the flow of data. Are you connected to the 5GHz network? What's the signal path like between the router/AP and the client?

Thanks Jason. Here's what I did. On my router (nighthawk r8000p) I turned on enabled QoS and changed the channels on my two active bands. That seems to have cleared up the issues with the channel that was really bad off.

There are still a couple channels that aren't that great. Would we be able to review those logs as well to see if there is anything further I need to do?

The logs aren't stored locally, they are sent directly to our server. If you want to let me know which channels and when you saw the issues I can check them.

Did you turn off the sending of diagnostic data on the HDHomeRun? I'm not seeing any from it, just from the app and DVR.

Sorry for the delay Jason. I've turned on sending of diagnostic data again as of 12pm EST on 9/28.

The issue i'm seeing currently is freezing frames. Like someone constantly clicking pause

I've again selected to send diagnostic information. Are you receiving them yet?
