Signal Strength

Post by firemantom26 » Sat Aug 17, 2019 8:09 am

Hello,

First time poster.

I don't see anywhere where I can see signal strength and can you add channels manually.

I would assume it is a different software than I have.
Thanks
Tom

You didn't list device but I would assume it is a modern device and that once you tune a channel, you can view the signal strength and quality on the device's web page (Tuner Status, then select specific tuner). For most it would be easier to use hdhomerun_config_gui. On windows if you get the full software package (not just the app) it is in:
C:\Program Files\Silicondust\HDHomeRun

With it, you can select a tuner and go up and down physical channels and see the strength and quality on each.

SD's software (as well as those that only (fully) use the modern method of tuning) relies on it's scan, no way to add channels. Other software that does not fully rely on the modern methods usually allows manually adding of channels (though if it didn't get picked up by the scan, chances are it will have problems)

If using windows, download the software package from SD, not (just) the app.

One last question. When decoding a channel and you click on view it brings up Windows Media player. It gives me sound but no video. Do I have something set up wrong?

Thanks Again

What version of windows? Most likely you need mpeg2 codec and/or 32 bit vlc.

Install the HDHomeRun app from the Windows Store and use that to watch.

The VLC player fixed the problem.
