2 USB hard drive on Nvidia shield

Postby The_Jonathan » Fri Feb 08, 2019 7:44 pm

Hi,

I have been using an Nvidia Shield with a 8tb USB3.0 hard drive. I am getting close to filling the first hard drive. Can I add another USB hard drive to Nvidia Shield and will the HDHomeRun app simply use it when the first hard drive is full?

Thx

Jo

No I doubt it because you cannot change the recording directory on the Shield. When you first install … it defines what path it will use and cannot be changed.

So the only way to have multiple hard drive is a to have the DVR on a multi-bay NAS or a PC?

Dang, Would have loved it to keep it simple all on shield.

What are the opinions of people here on these 2 options ? I do like the idea of a simple NAS setup and just forget about it.

On the other hand, I also like the idea of adding Mcbuddy to strip commercial (never tried app before, but it does seem popular around here) and adding a Plex server to be able to download on phone and tablet. I did try a Plex server on my shield, but the shield didn’t seem to perform well with both HDHomeRun dvr and Plex server at the same time. Does it add a lot of ‘maintenance’ having the dvr on a dedicated pc

Thx in advance for opinion.

I run the DVR on my Shield 2017 with a 4TB USB 3.0 drive attached. I like it quite a lot. But I don't use the Shield to run much of anything else, except for the occasional Netflix/HBO/Hulu program. It sits quietly on the corner of my desk out of the way.
