Noob question about DRM on PRIME

Postby handydadtv » Sat Jan 26, 2019 8:52 pm

Can someone explain, in simple terms, why I can't watch CNN (a DRM-protected channel) using the HDHR viewer on my Mac, the HDHR app on my iPhone/iPad, and even the HDHR app on a Firestick 4K, BUT I can watch it as a DLNA source directly on my Samsung TV.

You should be able to on iOS (non-rooted, no external display, no airplay). The others cannot guarantee protected path. Samsung and many other tv manufacturers support dtcp-ip in their dlna implementations, but rarely make such available to other apps. Other restrictions for dtcp-ip is <7ms rtt and <3 hops and wireless sometimes exceeds that (rtt) and personally believe SD's app requires <5ms rtt.

Eventually SD should be able to support such on their mac app but until amazon can offer their own spin of playprotect that meets all the requirements assuring a protected path, firetv is out of the running.

As far as SD's apps are concerned see viewtopic.php?f=92&t=64023 for protected channel requirements.

I was wrong about iOS -- DRM channels do work on my iPhone.
