firmware downgrade for older Extend available?

Postby CouchPotatoDude » Sat Jan 05, 2019 10:38 am

I recently added a Windows 10 machine so I could try the Premium TV. I was forced to upgrade the firmware for my
Model: HDTC-2US
Device ID: 10533BC3
to
Firmware: 20180817

The previous firmware had "beta" in the version number. With my original Windows 7 PC I am now getting much worse reception and bad behavior in WMC. I ordered a newer Connect device to see how that works but I'd like to revert the older Extend to some earlier firmware. Is this possible?

Firmware for modern devices (those that support http streaming and dlna) cannot be downgraded... last hdhr to allow such was the 3rd gen ota capable tuners.

Isn't the device listed a gen 3?

No, an extend is considered 4th gen (though on release didn't have 4 in its name, like it was originally announced with, as it was considered a "1st" gen transcoding tuner also there was some confusion at the time the 4 impled 4 tuners (thus why they added 2US) as some media outlets reported... An expand (other than 5th gen expand) and prime are 3rd gen but support the modern methods of tuning with http streaming/dlna so those 3rd gen devices also can't be downgraded. The prime is required to be that way by cablelabs... the others are not necessarily required to but supposedly the DLNA requirements also disallow such (I believe most likely a carry over of DTCP requirements of prime and eventually once DRM recording is permitted on SD's DVR, your account can be "authenticated" with those other tuners as well (i.e. if one gets rid of the prime, you would still have access) so recorded content is still accessible...

basically if the tuner has a "name" rather than just model number (ie connect, extend, expand, duo, quatro, prime) it can't be downgraded.

Seems like I should be able to go back to what I have been doing for many years, OTA only with WMC. If not, then I guess I'm outa here.
