api-ms-win-crt-stdio-i1-1-0.dll

Postby GetMatt » Sat Jan 05, 2019 1:01 am

I have a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium. When I install the HDHomerun software it sees to install fine, but when I run the setup it says I am missing this file and reccomends reinstall. I have uninstalled/reinstalled 2 times so far and the same error persists. I have also restarted several times and retried it.

If it help, on my initial install it installed .Net 4.5. After that was complete HDHomerun install hung for 5 minutes before I killed the install and restarted.

One of the C library redistributables is missing or corrupt (I think the 2015 version, but it could be another version). You can try following the download for the 2015 variant https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downloa ... x?id=52685 or for other versions, you can use the links at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... -downloads (you may need both the x86 and x64 versions, too).

Thanks. I tried installing the 2015 C++ Redist last night but it failed to installed. I’m going to let Windows run through all it’s automatic updates. Hopefully that will fix it.

Well, there's your problem! (or at least likely to be a strong contributor to your problem).

I believe sometime later in the lifetime of W7 some of the functionality of the visual studio support libraries were moved to the core OS, and the later redists require those core OS updates to install and function. Obviously it would be better if there were more helpful error messages, but I suspect it is a less tested failure mode in the installers.

Well...one step closer. Win7 SP1 fixed that issue. Now the ehome remote doesn't work but I suspect one of the 180 (yes 180) windows updates my computer is downloading will fix that.

If anyone wants to add it to their notes, api-ms-win-crt-stdio-i1-1-0.dll is part of the Universal C Runtime. I think it's marked as a recommended update in Windows Update for Win7/8 so most people have already had it for years and most new installs will get it automatically, but those who dial back the Windows Update settings may need to install manually via the site or in WU.
