PRIME Time Warping?

Postby Billi23 » Tue Dec 25, 2018 7:16 pm

Everything working ok, but thought these were some strange entries in my PRIME's log.
Time jumped back 8 minutes, forward 8 minutes, back 9 minutes, forward 9 minutes (I added the times in parens at line end).

Your cable company is doing maintenance?

It has been some time since I looked, but I was under the impression that for the Prime, when possible, it got its time from the cable system itself (part of the CableCARD protocol includes time information), and that is why the log prefix is "CableCARD:". As I recall the devices can also get time via network protocols, but the CableCARD is going to be the preferred choice if available (obviously the cable company has to provide accurate time information for their own STBs to perform guide and dvr functionality, so why not take advantage of it?).

Since the times are UTC, the log entries indicate these were occurring (over a month ago back in November) in the middle of the night. Most cable companies consider midnight to 6am local time the maintenance hours. The log entries are in the middle of that, and could easily indicate work in progress at that time. Unless you are seeing these types of entries all the time, I would consider it just another day in the life of the cable company staff doing their job while most are asleep.

Sounds like a reasonable assumption to me. Wasn't sure if the time of day came from silicondust servers or comcast.

Appears it was a one time occurrence, was just checking the log before I power cycled the PRIME to try and pick up guide names for two newly added (8 days ago) channels again, like last time No guide name for two channels. Seems to take Comcast weeks to get new channel guide names added to the tables for the cablecard. And those are just the new QAM channels, other new channels are IP only.
