Unable to play channel - DMARTIN

Postby DMARTIN » Tue Dec 19, 2017 2:32 pm

I have also randomly had the same error, Unable to play channel, end of stream. I am using a fire TV, with HDHR app from amazon. I can switch to another channel and then come back and everything is OK then. It is very annoying. I am also concerned that it is interfering with my recording using my PlexPass.
I am direct wired to my router.
Any suggestions?
My firmware is up to date on the connect.

We would like to get some diagnostic data.

If you are using a Windows PC:
  1. If you have not already done so, please install the latest HDHomeRun Windows software from viewtopic.php?f=119&t=20613
  2. Run HDHomeRun Setup, enable “Send diagnostic information...” on the Advanced tab and click Apply. If you do not have an Advanced tab, close HDHomeRun Setup and reopen it.
  3. Unplug the power from the HDHomeRun and plug it back in
  4. After the powerup sequence finishes, click “Scan” on the Digital Antenna or CableCARD tab
  5. Click OK
If you are using a Mac:
  1. If you have not already done so, please install the latest HDHomeRun Mac software from viewtopic.php?f=119&t=20613
  2. Open Terminal and run:

    Code: Select all

    hdhomerun_config ffffffff set /sys/debug debug_enabled=10
  3. Unplug the power from the HDHomeRun and plug it back in
  4. After the powerup sequence finishes, run a channel scan on the HDHomeRun's web page
After the scan finishes, open the HDHomeRun app on the FireTV and press play/pause 13 times to bring up the menu, then enable Send diagnostic information. Watch a channel until the problem occurs. Reply back with the device ID for your HDHomeRun and the time and channel number it occurred on and we will check the logs.

Will do. Does running this install, override the install I did from the website last week?

I am using plexpass to obtain my OTA signal using the HDHR and use the plex DVR service. So far, I am batting about .500 on whether the movie completely records or not.

I'm 0 for 2 today. below is the system log for today. I am hopeful you have some advice.
Thanks

The network link down messages indicate that the network connection between the HDHomeRun and whatever it is connected to was lost. Did you unplug the cables or reboot the router/switch at those times? Keep in mind the log times are UTC, so subtract 5 hours to get the time in EST.

Thanks for the reply. I kind of thought the same thing when I saw that. I do not think I rebooted the router. The HD HR is hardwired into an ARRIS Surfboard Modem/Router. By chance, do you recommend specific routers that perform best with the HD HR? It seems like I maybe have had random issues with the lost connection before. And yes, I did figure out the time delta.

You might start with a different network cable and port on the router, and make a note of what time you make the switch so you can monitor the logs and see if any further disconnects occur. If so, if you have a network switch you could plug the HDHomeRun into that and then the switch into the router to determine if it's a problem with the router or the HDHomeRun.

I don't remember seeing any particular issues with ARRIS combo devices, except perhaps for some that are issued by the ISP and have every setting locked down. I personally use an ASUS, though all my HDHomeRun devices are on a separate switch near my antenna. I would avoid anything Belkin, including Linksys, as those tend to be problematic, and I remember a few people reporting issues with the Netgear Orbi system. Otherwise most modern stuff seems to be fairly well-behaved.

This week, tonight included, I have had a problem with while recording off one of the tuners and watching live tv on the other tuner, I received the end of stream error. To fix, I had to go to another channel and come back to the one I was watching. Problem is, this glitch also stopped my recordings mid stream.
Attached is the log.
Do you have any suggestions as this is becoming frustrating. It had been working quite well, until this week, but I also had not been recording on one tuner and watching the other. I would not think that would be a problem.
Thanks

Do those network link down messages correspond with the times that happened? Those indicate that the HDHomeRun is losing its network connection, so if you didn't unplug the HDHomeRun or reboot the switch/router at those times, that would suggest a bad network cable, port on the switch/router, or port on the HDHomeRun.
