New Install, TA's Not Working with Prime and CableCARD

Spectrum Tech Support confirms that the TA's are entered correctly and has sent several "Hits" but they still aren't working.

Can you tell me the "Device ID" of your PRIME? (printed on the bottom of the unit and on my.hdhomerun.com)

Prime 1 has come to life with the TA indicating "Ready"

Prime 2 is still showing the TA as "Initializing".

Any assistance would be appreciated. Spectrum is returning today but is it my Prime being bad?

99.999999999% of the time it is the TA (physically or configuration) or rf to the TA (make sure they have good signal and don't attempt to daisy chain TAs through each other). Only once have I actually seen it as the USB cable. I possibly could lower that figure a bit for an issue when there were new primes and motorola TAs wouldn't work with anything with a certificate issued after a certain date in which case the prime firmware was updated for a workaround but the real cause was the motorola firmware which also has been updated.

Ever since my provider went to DSG mode for the cisco TA's I haven't had any issues while before it required at least monthly reboots.

That is the TA not being able to talk upstream... bad TA or coax layout issue.

BTW - you can safely swap the USB cables between your two HDHomeRun PRIME units - the TA isn't paired to the HDHomeRun or the card.

So if I swap them the working Prime will no longer show the TA as ready?

Cabling was thre way splitter to each TA then to each Prime. Last tech put in two splitters and it is no longer using the Cable out from TA to go to the Prime.

What is DSG?

DSG is DOCSIS Set-top Gateway. DOCSIS is the set of standards that covers cable modems, and DSG is basically an alternate system where out-of-band data is transmitted over a cable modem data channel instead of the legacy out of band channel most cable providers use. AFAIK, this isn't used by any provider that uses tuning adapters. I think Comcast uses it for some subset of their service, possibly just their X1 stuff.

Cox went to DSG mode in Phoenix over a year ago and I believe did the same in most of their other Cisco markets. I'm not aware of another provider that did so but mention it as the difference for me was as different as night and day when it came to reliability (especially when it is 115 out and the sun beating down on the tap) and I would like for more providers to consider it.

Good to know. Has Cox gone to mid-split yet?

Interesting. I had TWO techs out last week and I could swear I heard the guy on speakerphone from Charter say, "Maybe we should set this up with DSG" but maybe I just wanted to hear that.

At any rate the second tuner is now showing status "ready" for the TA but I'm still not getting all the channels in my package on that tuner. I'm waiting for it to "settle in" for a bit before calling Spectrum back to see if they have the line-up provisioned correctly or some other odd thing for this tuner but I'm reluctant as most of the channels I use are showing up on both tuners and they'll probably just bork it again..
