New firmware questions

Post by Billi23 »

From Changelog viewtopic.php?p=372388#p372388
HDHomeRun Firmware (20210422)

Is this a beta or general release?
I don't see it in the released firmware https://info.hdhomerun.com/info/downloads#firmware
or the beta firmware https://info.hdhomerun.com/info/downloads#beta_firmware

1) What models is it applicable to (besides FLEX)?
2) How do I get it?

Don't worry about the date stated there as that is usually the last to be updated... generally you would want to follow the liniks in the download page in the forum at viewtopic.php?f=126&t=20613 and get the latest windows or mac installer.

My suggestion is to get the latest beta which is 20210501 which the link there may download depending on what model (i.e. 4K works) which is 20210501 for 5th gen (which "includes" 4K, Flex scribe, and servio). 4th and previous gen (including prime) are on 20210422 which was considered "release" but I personally have had worse luck with releases than betas including a release that came out 2 days after a fully working beta so I don't recommend the stay on release approach but rather updating if there is something wrong or a new feature you need to get the latest (most probably shouldn't automatically upgrade right away). There were some issues on the 5th gen devices with the release you mentioned that could prevent tuners from tuning.

You can always substitute that date for the latest (or older but you can't downgrade modern tuners) if your link has a different date in it.

Since you didn't really answer my questions...

You're saying that 20210422 is a general release version, not a beta. (I assume it's what the FLEX ships with)

Since I have a Prime, I know I can get the bin file I want by changing the version# in the url.
https://download.silicondust.com/hdhome ... 210210.bin (LATEST RELEASE)
https://download.silicondust.com/hdhome ... 3beta1.bin (BETA)
https://download.silicondust.com/hdhome ... 4beta1.bin (BETA)
https://download.silicondust.com/hdhome ... 210422.bin (BETA?/RELEASE?)

And I can get the latest (BETA) version of the Windows installer here.
https://download.silicondust.com/hdhome ... s_beta.exe
Which would update my Prime to v20210422 firmware.

Now, since my Prime is currently at release version 20210210, the questions are;

does my Prime need the upgraded TLS root certificates in HDHomeRun Firmware (20210422) ?
* Upgrade TLS root certificates.

the improvement to http streaming efficiency in HDHomeRun Firmware (20210404beta1) ?
* Improvement to http streaming efficiency.

the adjustment to http streaming to improve receive-side efficency in HDHomeRun Firmware (20210303beta1) ?
* Adjustment to http streaming to improve receive-side efficency.

Just asked Nick, he said 20210422 can be considered stable, but some additional fixes were found right after making the build, so it hasn't been pushed out to the webUI or download links yet. 20210422 will install when using the Windows or Mac beta installer for some devices, but the FLEX will get an even newer beta (highly recommended for all FLEX users).

20210422 isn't vital to install, but you can install it now using the beta desktop installer, or wait for the next stable update through the web UI, which should be coming out fairy soon with additional fixes.
