Channels stuttering / garbled when FireTV cube streaming

Post by sheap74 » Fri Nov 08, 2019 11:11 am

have an Amazon FireTV cube with the HDHomeRun app version 20191025 last updated yesterday and HDHomeRun CONNECT QUATRO
Model: HDHR5-4US
System Status
Hardware Model HDHR5-4US
Firmware Version 20190621

It's been giving me problems on and off for a while now, but it seems like it has gotten worse.
Most channels are stuttering and "garbled" after a few seconds after being tuned in.
I've been thinking this whole time that it was a reception issue, but I've checked several times the tuner seems to have good reception
Tuner 0 Status
Virtual Channel 29.1 WTXFDT
Frequency 575.000 MHz
Program Number 3
Modulation Lock 8vsb
Signal Strength 96%
Signal Quality 100%
Symbol Quality 100%
Streaming Rate 11.844 Mbps

Today - I noticed something that makes me think the source of the problem is in the HDHomeRun device (firmware) itself.
I can watch the same channel on my Windows 10 PC and it is perfect - not a single streaming problem.
As soon as I open the FireTV cube app, the channel will start stuttering - even on the Windows 10 PC.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

That usually suggests a network issue if the quality isn't going down or potentially a power supply issue if using multiple tuners at once.

Do you have a DVR engine installed anywhere? As playing content is through that if such is discovered.

I did start using HDHomeRun DVR service, as well. I just disabled the DVR and restarted the app -- seems good so far.
So when the DVR is installed and turned on,
Antenna --> HDHomeRun --> Router --> DVR --> Router --> FireTV Cube ?
I was using the Windows 10 PC I mentioned as the DVR, for now.

I think we responded to you via a support e-mail, but in case this is another person, is the DVR PC wifi or wired ethernet? If wifi then the network connection is probably not keeping up with the large OTA video streams.
