Re: ATSC 3.0: Washington, DC / Baltimore, MD

Signal strength difference between adjacent channels isn't really an issue with modern digital tuners because of the fundamental difference in how digital tuners work compared to analog tuners (note that this has nothing to do with digital vs. analog broadcasts). Silicondust moved the HDHomeRun to d...

Re: Request 802 error

Why can't you just use ?transcode=heavy (or whatever) on everything, then fall back to ?transcode=none if it errors? The EXTEND will respect the transcode setting and everything else will ignore it and just send the original video.

Re: ATSC 3.0: Washington, DC / Baltimore, MD

What is the required dBm or field strength for a HDHR Connect 4k to get a lock on WIAV? Rabbitears search says I have -94 dBm (36 dBuV/m) at the height/location of my antenna. My Connect 4k says there is a quality of 15% to 21% with a strength of 52% to 56%; it says the Modulation Lock is atsc3. I ...

Re: Unofficial Kodi HDHomeRun DVR PVR Client

What's the general consensus, are we trusting Matrix now or waiting until at least .1 or .2? I'm afraid of breaking all the things because of the upgrade and having a lot of trouble reverting because I use a shared database.

I'm curious how involved Meredith even was in Portland. Their master control for the entire west coast, including Portland, was run out of KPHO (Phoenix) until earlier this year when they shut it down and consolidated the entire country into WGCL's facility in Atlanta. If they had just decided to ma...

Re: Recording DRM

You know what, my sentiments exactly. Like a sucker, I had recently paid $35 for the DVR service and found out it does not allow recording of the DRM protected channels. What a disappointment. It does no better than my Plex Media Server DVR which does all the same things basically as this useless $...

Re: Signal and Symbol Quality bouncing between none and 100%

You probably need a high pass filter. Do a search for "tvi high pass filter" and see if you can find one somewhere that isn't a pain to ship to Ireland. They used to be readily available in the UK for about £10 and no problem shipping to Ireland, but I don't know what it's like post-Brexit.

Re: New orders

Multiple DVRs are pretty seamless. They will talk to each other and whichever has more free space at a time will make the recording. The HDHomeRun app will show all recordings from all DVRs together. If you don't have guide listings for your channels you should post in the Guide Issues subforum of t...

Re: ATSC 3.0: Nashville TN OTA

I thought the plan was to use the more robust signal for their main feed at lower quality, then use the less robust PLP1 for a high quality one. Like streaming is today. I guess with it not even being a year since launch they’re testing the waters. I get that. I’m just surprised, seeing they are br...

I wish we had someone in Dallas who would actually work with people to identify issues. The only contact I have here won't even acknowledge that the video they're broadcasting is only at ~30fps even though it's exceedingly obvious that it's not running full rate when you put the ATSC 3 and ATSC 1 br...

Re: ATSC 3.0: Nashville TN OTA

The idea is for them to test the robust signal to see if it's worth wasting bandwidth on long-term. The more robust signal takes up a significantly larger percentage of the available channel space to deliver a given bitrate than the less robust signals do. If they dedicate fewer bits to the more rob...

Re: HELP! MiBox 3 US Updated Android 9 ... Wrecked

I replaced my MiBox with a Chromecast with Google TV and haven't looked back. The picture quality is way better for video from the HDHomeRun (proper 60Hz deinterlacing), I don't have to reboot it once a week to keep it from becoming super laggy, and it doesn't break every time there's a firmware upd...

Re: Improved networking

It would work less perfectly if you had to waste bandwidth going wireless from the HDHomeRun to the AP and then from the AP to the client. Also, the emissions from the wireless transmission would probably be detrimental to TV reception unless the device was made larger so that the wireless parts wer...

It's too bad NVIDIA cut corners on the video decoder, because in everything other than this issue I've had better luck with NVIDIA than anything else.

Re: ATSC 3.0: Nashville TN OTA

That may be. I’ll try and see what happens. I can always return it. I don’t understand why you’re so negative about all this. Hating on the 3020, the Televes. I need the biggest I can get for VHF, not UHF. I’ve gotten good UHF from a home-made antenna before. Since it’s the size of the waves. I nee...
